I have a couple of questions....
Did you notice that the signal strengths on this receiver are lower than other FTA receivers? My pantec clone reports the signal as being 97% while the CaptiveWorks reports the signal as being 78%.
Did you have to change the transponder settings when scanning nimiq1? I scanned nimiq1 and only 3 transponders scanned properly.
Do you need a special disqec switch to use the auto switch feature? I have used a couple of no-name switches and can't get it to work at all. It just scans the same sat over and over.
Does the captive works have the feature to force download the guide like the viewsat platinum?
Can you set which channels are being displayed when viewing 4/9/16 channels?
To answer a couple of questions....
S/w 1.42 has blind scan (F1 key) and has preview in the guide.

Never tried that. I have a motorized unit with no switchDo you need a special disqec switch to use the auto switch feature? I have used a couple of no-name switches and can't get it to work at all. It just scans the same sat over and over.
Why would you need that? There is no guide on most satellitesDoes the captive works have the feature to force download the guide like the viewsat platinum?
Nope. It’s the channel you’re on and the next 4,9,16Can you set which channels are being displayed when viewing 4/9/16 channels?
Interesting...wonder if it actually works. Have to read on itS/w 1.42 has blind scan (F1 key) and has preview in the guide
And I hope on Nimiq1 you only are getting the free stuff…because we have a no hack talk policy here : )University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs mens hockey team

I believe the Cw-600s now does have Blind Scan.
I had one this week, bought in Montreal, and the Blind Scan fonction was in the Menu and it seemed to work.
I hesitate to say for sure because I'm a newbie at FTAs and this is the first unit I ever tried and tested.I tested it on Nimiq 2.
I'm sure others will soon probably colaborate this finding.
Cheers

Oh by the way I forgot to say : Good work Iceberg !
I enjoy reading your reviews !
I'm new to the FTA world and want to test different
brands to see what I prefer before I buy.
(I can't help myself to test and Inquire ...I'm a Tech ...what can I do...)
So far I borrowed and tested the Cw-600s. This week I'll be borrowing a Coolsat 5000 and possibly a Fortec Ultra. From what I've read so far i'm leaning towards the Coolsat 5000 at $185 tx incl.
I know its a loaded question but Any suggestions ? or tips ?

Proud Staff MemberI like the 5000 the best (IMO)
the blind scan is very fast compared to the Fortec (like at least twice as fast)University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs mens hockey team

Thanks IceBerg,
I did quite a bit of research and I too come to the conclusion that the Coolsat 5000 is the FTA for me.
I'm a newbie to FTAs (but a tech) and I have alot more reading to do.
I want to setup a motor and I was wondering if you need special hardware ?
or can I use my bell antenna and just add the motor.
Is it difficult to setup?
and approx.how many free channels more than the nimiq 2 satellite it would give me ?
Thank you for your time
