Thread: Megasat MS1075 Dual Standard Linear 0.4db LNBF Mini-Review

Some were interested in the Megasat MS1075 Dual Standard Linear 0.4db LNBF since it is inexpensive and has a low stated noise figure.

I purchased one from an ebay supplier, and did a comparison with the Xtreme II 0.3db single standard linear LNBF on some Galaxy 25 channels.

(Both LNBFs put in the same position, with the same skew.)
(With a Diseqc switch in-line and ~100 feet of RG6 for all readings)
(the Mercury II generally fluctuates back and forth, so I gave a range from minimum to maximum readings)
(Each channel is on a different transponder on Galaxy 25)

Signal Strength/Signal Quality

With the Xtreme II:

FTV 80-82/71-80
Russia Today 81-82/61-71
Jaam-E-Jam 79-80/62-82
Andisheh TV 80-81/64-75
MWV 81-82/64-74

With the Megasat MS1075:

FTV 72-73/28-55
Russia Today 73-74/63-72
Jaam-E-Jam 69-70/53-60
Andisheh TV 75-85/73-82
MWV 73-74/63-73

Analysis:

The Xtreme II has the highest gain (66db) of any commonly available Ku LNBF (that I have found), and so it is no surprise that its signal strength readings are uniformly higher.
What is interesting about the quality readings is that the channels (transponders) on which the Xtreme II does well, the MS1075 does poorly, but on the ones that the Xtreme II does less well, the MS1075 does well, and in one case, slightly better (Russia Today).

Here is the Megasat MS1075 on a table and mounted on the 1 meter dish:

I was very anxious to know the performance.

These numbers seem generally encouraging, though there are some anomalies.

Except for the FTV channel, I'd have to say the Megasat did very well for a slightly lower spec, and a what??? half the price??

I liked it for the rectangular base. Easily used on old DirecTV Phase II and III dishes for fun experiments.
Can be held by the neck as shown, for standard FTA mounts.

They also sell a circular model MS1125, rated 0.4db, which might be of interest to the Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Mexican users.

XtremeII is $29 shipped from psbsatellite.com (Forum member)
MS1075 was $19 shipped on ebay (price could vary - e.g. only current listing is $22 shipped)
Of course, the MS1075 gets you two outputs, if you are using two receivers at once on the same satellite slot.

Nice Review, that lnbf looks very much like the ASC322, found at DMSI. I wonder if it's made by the same manufacturer?

You missed the original thread that prompted this review.

In that thread, I mentioned that the ASC322 was evidently only different in its slightly lesser 0.5db noise figure, and the possibilities are:

- Exact same LNBF and the 0.4db figure is an "exaggeration" (lie) by the seller or the distributor, or
- Exact same LNBF and the 0.4db figure is a different interpretation of the statistics (perhaps the actual figure is 0.45 and is rounded up by one and rounded down by another), or
- 0.4db LNBF is the same model, but a more recent version with a slight improvement, or
- Two entirely different LNBFs that happen to use the same outer casing parts provided by a third party.

ASC322 can also be obtained from psbsatellite.com for (IIRC) $28 delivered.

And you can find a review in this Forum for a very good Sadoun Dual Standard LNBF (albeit a little more pricey).
