ADVERTS
I now have and will keep the HDMI and 5.1 ch cables (only) in place, The DVD 'input' options on AVR are:
Digital Optical, Analog Input, Auto Input. NO matter the selection, it defaults back to Auto.
I think I found the possible answer. The front of the AVR has a 5.1 ch input button.
DUH, I never looked at the front 'buttons', just in the menus. doooouuh!
Before trying to play a BD disk, how should the BD55 set up menu be set?
Digital Audio Output
- Dolby D/Dolby... TrueHD : Bitsteam?
- DTS/DTSHD : Bitsteam?
- BD-Video Secondary Audio : Off ?
Any other BD55 Set Up settings I need to be sure are set a certain way? I have set them to my 'understanding' of the manual. My confidence is not 100% though. Now I will review the rest of the BD set up menu items, then try a BD disk.
Crossing my fingers it was NOT HAVING THE 5.1 INPUT BUTTON PRESSED ON FRONT OF AVR. I wonder if every time I switch to DVD on the AVR, if I'll need to press that button. We'll see.
I'll be back in a few minutes to let you know.
Would like confirmation on my bitstream and Secondary Audio to Off settings are correct for theHDMI and 5.1 ch cables (only) in place.

Your trying to do a setup similar to mine. HDMI audio on or off won't affect 5.1 analog out.

Doooough ! ! ! ! ! ! ! It WAS the 5.1 ch Input button on the front of the AVR. In my (weak attempt at a) defense, the button is real SMALL !
Can you confirm my BD55 settings so I know I am not sabotaging my player in some other way ( I have this history you know)?

Thank you Soooo much for helping me look for that 'itsy bitsy' 5.1 ch button on the AVR!
NOW we will watch a movie.

I did not set any sound settings for speakers on the DB55. Will the sound just be handled by how the speakers are set on the AVR?
Thanks and Happy New Year to all.

TeamE,
I have it set to:
Analog Audio Output : 2ch (downmix) + 5.1 ch (not 7.1)
the only options available were the 2ch + 5.1ch OR 7.1
Even if I could change and make speaker settings from the BD55 instead of where I assume they are still controlled by the (old) AVR, I will not bother making adjustments. My new Denon 1909 will hopefully arrive next week. Then I will let it do it's magic via Audesey.

SD card questions...
The only reference I have found in the manual and online is that 1Gb is the recommended minimum size.
I wonder what the maximum size it will take? I think SD cards go to 16Gb.
Will it work with SDHC cards?
Mainly, what is a good functional size of SD card to install? I always like to err on the more side than the minimum side, especially since SD memory is so cheap.
Anyone put a card in and accessed BD-live? What was your experience?
Thanks,
