Peabody cable station forms non-profit
ADVERTS 1
PEABODY - The new cable television contract between the city and Comcast calls for the establishment of a non-profit corporation.
The non-profit corporation, Peabody Access Telecommunicaxtions, was initiated by Mayor Michael J. Bonfanti and will operate the city's public access television channel. The establishment of the corporation reflects Comcast's efforts to divest itself from the public access channels in the individual cities.
The Board of Directors for Peabody Access Telecommunications was established, with the charge of making the non-profit corporation a viable entity in Peabody. As its first act, the board of directors is seeking input from residents and Peabody Cable TV Access users, along with other interested parties, as it begins to develop the design for a new Access operation and studio.
At this time, the board is looking for input on facility design, equipment acquisition, staffing, and policy development. Because of this, a public forum has been scheduled for Monday, March 20 at 7 p.m. in the Wiggin Auditorium at Peabody City Hall. Billed as the opportunity to voice their thoughts, it will allow residents to contribute ideas to how Peabody's public access television should be run.
