Smile taping movies onto a dvd player

Hi everyone, I need some help here i have a sony DVD/VCR player and i can not tape a movie because of the copy right protection, Is there someway of getting around this, or does anyone know a good DVD/VCR player that i can tape the movies in have directv.

There was a way around it, when using a separate vcr from the dvd recorder. Forget the name of the part needed though. It was kind of expensive. It hooked up between the vcr and dvd. But, with these combo units, there's no way to hook it up, since that part is all internal. Can't swear that there's not a way to still do it, but I'm guessing it's cheaper to just buy the movie on dvd. Besides, even though it's going on a dvd, it would still be vhs quality...........

It's by design, due to Macrovision.

Make a DRM-less copy of the DVD first (on a PC) and then copy it onto a tape in your combo player.

Discussing this seems like endorsing piracy to me. Sat services or tapes, what's the difference?
