ADVERTS 1
The Phillies inquired on some interesting hitters: Matt Holliday, Xavier Nady, and Matt Kemp.
Matt Holliday is a major lift to any team wherever he goes. But he wants to stay in Denver.
Matt Kemp is a young buck with some issues. But, if the Dodgers trade him away, I look for it to be a trade they'll regret as Kemp will grow in age, wisdom, and (under Torre) grace.
"X" is an exciting player who has some legitimate pop and has stayed relatively healthy for once this season. He swears he has fallen in love with Pittsburgh. However, you know he'd welcome the call from Omar to come back to the fold and open up Citi Field next April!

I don't understand the Phillies going after another bat, when their need is clearly pitching.

Mets, if they were going to, would have had pulled the Nady trade by now; however, they are in a peculiar position; with next year, the will have a healthy Church and a phenom, Fernando Martinez, and of course Carlos Beltran platooning the outfield . . . make a trade now, lose some more farm talent or stay where you are . . . this series starting tonight at Shea will dictate our next move . . . GO METS!!!!!

On the Yankees front:
* They are currently in trade talks with the Mariners for Jarrod Washburn.
* They have expressed interest in both A.J. Burnett and Bronson Arroyo (maybe so A-Rod can slap some more balls out of Bronson's hand
).
* They have been scouting the Dodgers, who will entertain offers for Derek Lowe.
Also, the Cardinals are very interested in Orioles closer George Sherrill.

Reds may be interested in Huston Street:
Reds Interested In Huston Street?
By Tim Dierkes [July 23 at 11:50am CST]
Up until today,
the list of known Huston Street suitors
included the Mets, White Sox, Dodgers, and Brewers.
The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser
tosses a new club into the mix: the Reds.
It's an interesting development; the Reds are nine games out of the wild card. Of course, that didn't stop the Astros from making an acquisition. And unlike Randy Wolf, Street is under team control through 2010. On the other hand, Street could earn more than $5MM next year and the Reds are already paying Francisco Cordero $12MM in '09.
For discussion's sake...would a Street-Adam Dunn swap make any sense? We know that the A's are
lingering around on Jason Bay discussions
. Dunn isn't under contract for '09, but he should be good for two draft picks. Walt Jocketty and Billy Beane matched up once before, on the Mark Mulder-Dan Haren deal.
