I remember telling Doug Collins that I really didn't care whether Jordan came back or not, because there will always be another generation of stars and I was ready for the next one (Am I the biggest name dropper on this board or what? I had just set his TV up to get local broadcast channel 50, which carried the Wizards, but then I remembered that he'd never get to see them on TV.)
When Jordan moved into the same condo a month later and I was called out to reconnect his TV service at midnight after a genius from Comcast had inadvertently disconnected it, I tried my darndest to spring one of my prepared, Sam Bowie put-downs on him, but he wasn't much of a talker and didn't give me the set-up I needed.
Another one of my other customers from that era was the guy Jordan had posterized by pushing him off a few years earlier.

Well....TONIGHT, the HEAT will go for the "hat trick" and drop the Celtics. IF they can do that, they will more than likely be the ONLY team that has beaten the top 3 teams in the NBA.
Damn that's a LONG way from lasy year...

Sports Media Watch: Cavs/Lakers draws 3.7 mil.
I guess a lot of people do care about LBJ. It's not just HD.A battle between two of the biggest stars in all of sports gave TNT the most viewed NBA game on cable in four years.
The Lakers' win over the Cavaliers on Monday, featuring Kobe Bryant against LeBron James, drew a 2.3 U.S. rating and 3.7 million viewers on TNT. The 3.7 million viewers is the most for a regular season NBA game on cable since 2004.
"Winning big games ON THE ROAD is the signature of a clutch QB." BillD
There's more to playoff success than just winning. Sometimes, you have to go into enemy territory outside your stadium and walk the walk.

Cavs @ Blazers: Game in Review
I stayed up for the game last night between the Cavs and Blazers. This was the second of a four game West coast trip for the Cavs. A few bulletin points from last night's game....

1. This game featured 2 of the 3 franchises from the 1970 expansion. The 3rd was the now defunct Buffalo Braves.
2. This game presented many challenges to the Cavs. As many know, the Cavs are without 40% of their starting lineup with [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=362"]Zydrunas Ilgauskas Stats, News, Photos - Cleveland Cavaliers - ESPN[/ame] and Delonte West out with injuries. The Blazers, much like the Lakers out-sized the Cavs, especially with their three 7 footers.
3. Portland's Rose Garden is a tough place to play. The crowd seemed rambunctious from start to finish. Kudos to the great NBA fans in the Pacific North West.
4. The Blazers have a solid core of young players ([ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2983"]LaMarcus Aldridge Stats, News, Photos - Portland Trail Blazers - ESPN[/ame], [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3225"]Greg Oden Stats, News, Photos - Portland Trail Blazers - ESPN[/ame] and [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3027"]Brandon Roy Stats, News, Photos - Portland Trail Blazers - ESPN[/ame]). Many of who I was very impressed with. This team is going to be a force in the West for quite some time.
5. The Blazers lead the league with rebounds. Last night, the under-sized Cavs out rebounded the Blazers.
6. LeBron and Mo Williams put on a clinic last night. LeBron had 14 assists, while him and Mo accounted for 67 of the Cavs 104 points. LeBron's 14 assists were a season high and one off from a career high.
7. The Blazers tried everything on defense, including zone coverage, man-on-man, double and triple teams. Nothing worked. That's saying a lot, because normally the Blazers are a stout defensive team.
8. In a pre-game interview, Anderson Varejao told a reporter that while on this extended west coast trip, the entire team bonded and went out together to a dinner and movie. They saw Slumdog Millionaire. Andy went on to say that they have so much fun together on and off the court and said it's not odd for everyone on the team to do this sort of thing. He said "that's a part of being in a family".
9. By winning last night, the Cavs are now 8-0 following a loss. They have not lost 2 in a row the entire season.
10. Today is Greg Oden's 21st Birthday. Happy birthday Greg.Last edited by HD MM; 01-22-2009 at 09:56 AM.

HD MM,
just a small correction. The Buffalo Braves moved to San Diego in the mid '70's and became the Clippers.
The Clippers later moved to LA.

Great game last night! It was nice to see LBJ knocking down jumpers.
Another correction...Delonte West is injured...not Mo Williams.
