Mark Cuban not likely to buy Cubs
ADVERTS 1
...Gotta love the old boys network. This guy would be perfect for the Cubs, the city of Chicago and Major League Baseball, but the old scumbags owners including the head scumbag...."Bud" will put the kibosh on any chance for Mark Cuban.

As popular as Mark Cuban might be with the fans, he apparently isn't a favorite of the powers-that-be in Major League Baseball. The Chicago Sun-Times reports Cuban -- one of five final bidders for the franchise and Wrigley Field -- won't get much further in the bidding process.
That's because the "old guard" in Major League Baseball is less than enamored with the idea of Cuban joining the leadership ranks in the sport, according to a Major League Baseball source.
"There's no way Bud (Selig) and the owners are going to let that happen," the source told the Chicago Sun-Times. "Zero chance." Major League Baseball must approve the sale of the team, regardless of who buys it.
That same source told the newspaper that he doesn't expect the Cubs to be sold by opening day of the 2009 season. The team officially was put on the market on opening day of 2007, but the process has gone slowly thus far. And the weakening global economy could slow it even more.

Baseball owners are old geezers who live in the past.

Intresting take from Cuban and the Cubs
Link:
Mark Cuban and the Chicago Cubs
Just when you thought the rumor mill was closed, Chris De Luca of the
Chicago Suntimes
claims to have sources that support September’s claim (
Chi-Ball
) that Mark Cuban never had a chance to buy the Cubs, but rather, as simply a pawn. Once again, however, they fail to name names.
What’s the Truth?
Only Sam Zell, and perhaps a select few, really know the truth about the bidding process. Let’s say the claims are fact, Zell still is not going to get what he wants unless he actually sells to Cuban. So, if his goal was to raise the bidding amount by getting Cuban involved, it worked, but it backfired because he will not get the 1 Billion he is looking for without him…especially in this economy.
If not Cuban, then Who?
Tom Ricketts, of course! Unfortunately Ricketts is not stable anymore as a buyer. The funny thing is in an economy like this one Cuban is the most viable option, through his net worth and real assets. Plus he has the popular vote; the electoral (
Selig and his cronies
) vote will have major influence however.
In the End
If the Cubs sell this year, I bet it is Mark Cuban as the buyer. What started as a business tactic to raise the value (sound familiar, Wallstreet) of the Cubs will most likely turn into the sale of the Cubs directly to the pawn. Zell wants cash, Zell needs cash, Zell will go to the highest bidder, whoever that may be.

The problem with Cuban is that he wants to insert himself into the games. Baseball made a huge mistake letting Turner buy the Braves and Steinbrenner the Yankees back in the 1970s, and paid the price for decades. In both situations, the teams were near financial colapse and it was the only port in the storm.
It does not need a buffon that pulls the tactics that Cuban pulls at his NBA deal. And, Selig, who long time readers will know I despise, knows that once he owns the team, there is nothing that he can do, because what is a fine of even millions of dollars to Cuban, to control him from running on the field or otherwise acting like a fool.
Like all teams, the Cubs need an owner who will sit in the press box and been unseen and unheard.

I believe that Cuban said something to that affect that he won't become part of the game....
Personally, I think it's stupid that the present owners have a say in WHO buy's who.
I think it would be GREAT for the CUBS and MLB.
Cuban will buy the Cubs eventually, once Selig moves on.
I can think of far worse people that could buy a team .... Mr. Stienbrenner... and HANK is worse than George, but it 's ok for this obnoxous person to be in charge, but not for Mark ?

I'm sick of these old, obnoxious geezers running baseball.

Don't worry, Cuban will get the team in the long run and they will then start winning on a consistant basis.
