I would say it is a mixed bag at best. I will say I think QB's out of college are much more prepared than they used to be. Colleges pass a lot more and run pro style offense much more frequently. But you are right, depends on the QB.

If they have a good O-line and don't have to run for their life or spend most of the game on their back you can see just how good they are.

    Yeah, ask Tim Couch.

Troy ALSO had Michael Irving and Emmitt Smith. That helps too... LOL!

You have to have a running back. IMO Pittsburgh hasnt been what they could be since Betitis retired. The Colts have receivers. Install a bruising running back first and keep Manning. then bring in a reasonably priced 1st or 2nd rounder with the arm and a brain. You dont need Luck and you dont know what he is. No way would I throw that money away on a QB.

The early bird gets the worm, but the 2nd mouse gets the cheese.

Financial outlay for 1st round picks is borderline irrelevant.

Under the new system, Cam Newton has a 4 year $22m deal.

Under the old system, Sam Bradford signed a 6 year $78m deal.

The 'throwing money away on a QB' is very relevant for the 'Peyton Manning' thread however, with this $28m payment looming.

Especially when you also consider what the Colts paid Manning to recover and rehab last year as well....

Colts are permitted to sign Andrew Luck as soon as Friday.......

In past years, some first overall picks were signed to contracts before the draft actually began. Last year, due to the lockout, that was impossible.

This year, the presence of a rookie wage scale makes it much easier to get these deals done, since there’s no longer much — if anything — to negotiate.

One report says the Chiefs have talked to Condon about Manning. Pioli was appropriately mum on the topic since that would be tampering but didnt take advantage of the opportunity to say there is no interest at all, just that they're talking with Orton about possibly returning.
