It's too bad I can't get U-Verse where I live. The local AT&T store sells the programming and they have a specialist in the store, but our local telco is Verizon. They did have live demo setup (not sure how they tap into their network -- any idea?) in the store and I was impressed. Beautiful picture. Nice featuers. Just a great looking service.
I only wish AT&T could get the telco service in my area. We would have U-Verse.
As for Verizon, they have no plans to offer FIOS here yet and even if they did -- it's not IPTV, but fiber service that is almost identical to our Comcast service.
Whatever happened to choice? I thought the idea was that you would eventually be able to choose between Cable, U-Verse, FIOS, and Dish/DirecTV. They need to let you pick U-Verse, even if Verizon is the telco.

U-Verse in Michigan
Hi guys,
here is my posting on another forum about my U-Verse, it seems that the problems mentioned in the 2004 posting here have not been resolved.
"I just got the U-Verse U-200 installed yesterday and I have some concerns that maybe you guys can answer:
1. Isn’t it a little silly to only get one HD stream at a time? If I’m recording one program I can’t watch another HD basketball game! What is going to happen when we go all HD all the time? HD is the main reason for getting digital!
2. Why can we view HD on sets that don’t have true HD capability? My wife starts viewing a program and then when I turn on the only HD capable set and turn to an HD stream I shut her out. Not good for marital bliss.
3. With Comcast we just hooked up the sets (5 of them) to the cable coax and I could view all the SD streams (and none of the HD streams) using the TV remote which maintained the sleep function of the TV set. Is the sleep possible with the U-Verse box? Can we by pass the digital box under the TVs or do we have to use their digital box under each TV?
4. In the spirit of fairness I’ve got to say that switching between HD channels is much cleaner and faster than with Comcast. So far, the pixilation is less with U-verse than Comcast, but still there.
5. The internet (with 6mb) appears to download as fast as the 4mb with Comcast. Right now (4:08 EST) I’m getting 2mb on the Verizon test site, not exactly earth shattering!
6. The phone log feature is cool, but is it worth the price of the whole system?
7. The jury is still out on this service, but has anybody left U-Verse? What were the hassles if any?"
I'm not really looking for answers from all of you, but thought you might find this interesting, although disappointing.

I was told yesterday by a Uverse tech that as of yesterday they now have two streams of HD. I do not know if this is a local thing or nationwide. I am going to have Uverse installed and give it a try since there is no upfront cost, keep my DirecTV until I am sure Uverse is what I really want. So you might want to check in with your local AT&T about the second stream. I live in No Calif.

Proud Staff MemberStill only 1 stream here in Connecticut.
2 Streams is still not enough, thats enough for recording one thing while watching another. What about if your wife downstairs wants to watch her CSI in HD at the same time?Scott

Proud Staff MemberOk I did a little more research, so far no area has 2 HD streams, it is coming later this year, and this slide shows how they are going to do it.

That is a real concern for me,I will see next week when they do the install I am getting the higher speed internet plus U voice. I hope the guy did not lie to me about the two streams, a week ago he did tell me July for two streams and additional HD. I will ask the installers before they start about the two streams fact or fiction. Thanks for the info.

Dropped U-Verse
I dropped U-Verse and went back to WOW for my cable and internet. Initially U-Verse was great but as more people in my neighborhood signed up the signal quality began to drop. Picture freezes, audio out of sinc, loss of audio and/or video and the 1 HD feed made it an easy decision to return to WOW. All the new wireless routers on my block created a great amount of interference with my wireless phones.
U-Verse reminds me of the early days of Dish Network. A lot of growing pains. I am happy to be back with WOW (they gave me a killer deal with a price guarentee until 2010!) I will most likey drop my Lingo VOIP service and go back to the VOIP with WOW. It always worked seemlessly for us. Lingo has been a major disapointment, and heaven forbit if you need technical support, which is handled out of a call center in India.

I thought DirecTV customer service had a lot to be desired until I signed up for U verse. They were going to do the install last week nothing happened. I was told they would be out on the 21st of March once again a no show. I called this moring to find out what time they would be at my home and was told they would call back in a half hour. Still waiting. As of now I want no part of AT&T other than what I am stuck with now phone service and DSL. DirecTV is not so bad after all. Just wanted to pass this information on to folks who are considering U verse.
