Audio goes to static after a couple secs.

My tv is about 2 yrs old (Phillips), for over six months I have not used it. When I turn it on the audio is great but within seconds the roaring static takes over and you can forget watching tv. Dish has sent out a new receiver and also a tech. The tech said it was my tv "the audio went out". Can anyone help me this seems crazy. This receiver controls the tv in my living room and it has been ok. Could the fact that I have my computer hooked-up with DSL in that same area cause the problem? Thanks for any help you can give me. Hi Linda, and welcome to Satelliteguys.

In order to help, we are going to need some more specific information as follows:

Which exact model television are we discussing?
Which model DISH receiver?
How is it connected? Do you tune to a channel number, or are there red and white audio cables?

You mentioned controlling the TV in the living room. Is this a dual tuner set and you are trying to use the second output. Is that what is giving you trouble?

These answers would help a lot in narrowing this down.

disconnect everything and connect a stand alone DVD player...then
does the problem still exist ?

The Dish receiver ViP722 DVR. The receiver is on Dual, it controls the living room TV as TV2 and the bedroom as TV1. Both Tv's have a certain chanel the actual tv has to be on to work. I wanted to check my Tv by disconnecting it from the dish, but I do not think it will work without an antenna. Hope this helps.

OK, since the living room TV is in good shape, let's ignore that and concentrate on getting you the best possible picture and audio experience.

This is a 20" EDTV and does not have a HDMI connector, only DVI.

If you wan the best possible picture and sound, it would be best to go to Target and purchase a set of component video cables and a pair of audio cables. You could also purchase an S-Video cable instead of the component ones, but the picture will not be as good.

I think this would both solve your audio problem and also give you the best possible experience. The TV would be set to the correct input (component or S-video/video1) and you would never need to worry about channel numbers.

It gets tougher if you choose to stay with the RF connection. You say you get static from the audio, but you don't mention if you get a picture. I am going to assume that you do. This could happen for a number of reasons.

First, the channels don't match on the receiver and the TV. I would assume, you have checked this.

Second, almost nobody uses the RF output for TV1, and I expect it is not very well tested.

Try changing connections around and see if the bedroom works as TV2. You know that the receiver is good on TV2 as you are getting the signal in the living room. If it works, then the problem is in the receiver and we need to look there.

I believe there are some adjustments in the 722 menu for the RF modulators, including channel number and audio. Look in that menu and make sure everything is set up correctly.

That's what I've got right now. My best suggestion is to change to a/v connections though. It will be less grief in the long run.
