How many satellites does Dish have?

I was at a Home Show Friday and a Direct TV salesman tried to tell me that they had more satellites than Dish and that Dish only has 3. "John"

Well, satellite number is really irrelevant...

Dish uses 61.5, 72, and 77 for eastern arc and 110, 119, and 129 for western arc. Some east coast customers get 2 dishes for 61.5 and 110/119 as some markets don't have eastern arc yet.

There's also 105 and 118.7, used for international channels and locals in some areas. And 148 used for Alaska and Hawaii.

Most customers will only look at 3 satellites (110/119/129 or 61.5/110/119 or 61.5/72/77), as that contains all the programming. DirecTV uses 5 orbital locations (7 satellites) for all programming (99/101/103/110/119).

But satellite number is irrelevant in terms of the customer. It's all how they distribute programming across them. And having to look at fewer satellites can be better. The fewer satellites you need to use, the fewer issues you'll have.

Dish doesnt use 105 or 121 for subs anymore. They sublease it to other companies

Most customers will only look at 3 satellites (110/119/129 or 61.5/110/119 or 61.5/72/77), as that contains all the programming. DirecTV uses 5 orbital locations (7 satellites) for all programming (99/101/103/110/119).
Direct also has 72.5 for some locals

sats that Direct has available to customer
    72.5, 99, 101, 103, 110, 119

sats that Dish has available to customer
    61.5, 72, 77, 110, 118.7, 119, 129, 148

as noted above, Dish customers can have either 61.5, 72, 77 (Eastern Arc) or 110, 119, 129 (unofficially called Western Arc). 118.7 is mainly used for Internationals

    huh?

I can see all of them from here in Minneapolis. I see EA dishes and Western Arc dishes all the time.

I think you mean the most a sub would possibly need is 4 (EA customer with an International channel)

I thought I'd give this question my best shot as it's a weekend and I am offering a quick answer. I am 90% sure I got this right. Also you are very correct as Dish has much more than 3.
    Actually they have 2 sat on 110(E 10 and E 11)and 2 more on 61.5 sloth(E3 and E 12 former rainbow 1)and on 129 (E 5 and Ciel2 leased)so with the lost of Echo 2 on 148w they have around 14 satellites.
