Bell to Shaw Direct for dummies?

    Hi folks,

I am annoyed by the loss of so much stuff on Bell's 91' sat, so I have been idly looking again at Shaw Direct. I know where I would get gear and have a couple of ways I know I can get service, but I wonder if a couple of people who've either made the transition or have both systems would comment on what the differences would be in going from a Bell 9242 PVR to the Shaw Direct 630 PVR (I can't function without a PVR :-). Items of interest would be channel lineup (i.e. no HD timeshifting of CBC/CTV/Global?) and how the PVRs compare. Any fresh words of wisdom greatly appreciated.

I don't think the 2 PVR's are even close. The 9242 is by far the best HD Dual Tuner PVR out there in Canadaland. What with PiP, OTA Tuner and a TV2 out the 630 does not come close.

Have you considered a larger Dish.? I note you still get 82 from another thread.

I am philosophical about the unique 9242 advantages; I would not get those if I had to go to a 9241, either. I do use TV2 out, but I also have a Slingbox, and I have OTA covered by another unit. I guess I'm interested in a 9241-vs-630 comparison.

Yes, I get 82 passably well - not all transponders come in, and in the evening they wink out. I know I could improve my 82 with the 1 meter dish in the basement, but 91 dropped further than 82 ever did here, despite the fact that per charts, Nimiq 6 should reach further south than Nimiq 4. If I had a large dish that had skew to pick up both sats at once, I would deploy that in a heartbeat, but I don't think my HOA would put up with two of them (sigh). And it's pricey to run the experiment with my friendly installer.
