Black screen on 1080p purchased VOD

i have an old 58" floor model RCA tv in one room, and i have tried purchasing some VOD's that were 1080 p, just because thats the only version they were offered in. When i purchased them, all i get is a black screen with banner, which usually a hard reset fixes any other time. Unfortunately it does not in this case. I can fast forward, pause, and rewind, however i have no audio or video. My 922 is connected to the TV with component cables, so i thought maybe they would down convert to 480p. Will i not be able to watch these on this tv, or is there something else going on?

***forgot to mention the TV is only 480p

You have to have an HDMI connection for the 1080p VODs to work.
