Don't understand about needing to keep one BHN box. Are you saying there is no option for customers to not have a box at all?
i have been told by bhn people about those promos which require you to have their box. it has to be on your account. but you do not have to have it hooked up or activated. i have been told you can put it in your closet for a year (or whatever the kength of the promo is).

    1. How is the HD video quality? Is 1080i available regularly? How about 1080p availability?
    2. Does Dolby Digital audio work well consistently (no skips, no glitches, in sync with video)?
    3. Any outages and if so, how often and how long?
    4. Is there a search feature and, if so, how far into the future does it search and can you setup a recording for future programs?
    5. Is there a specific DVR model that works better than others?

DirecTV's quality and service have been gradually getting worse over the years and I'm ready to make a change. My other choices, besides Brighthouse, are Comcast/Xfinity and AT&T U-verse (soon). I'm leaning towards Brighthouse and understand their guide is not very good but I can possibly live with that, although the guide and search feature of DirecTV were very good.

If anybody has moved from DirecTV to Brighthouse, could you give me your impression?

    Thanks,
    Mike
The nice part about Brighthouse network is that I get the sports package for $s well. 8.00 per month. This gives me NFL redzome and IF ? the NHL commences on Dec 1st I get that as well k2afe

No doubt the tivo hardware/software is better. But I think he was trying to lower his bill not increase it.

Because the promo you are on includes the DVR. if you want to get rid of the DVR you lose the promo. Now there maybe a cheaper promo without a DVR but most all the TV promos include a box. Rather you use it or not. Its like getting a tripe play package but not wanting the phone service or maybe not wanting the internet. You will not save much as the cost of the 2 items vs the promo is not much difference.

Same with buying a #1 value meal, vs buying them seperately. You might not want the drink, but if you buy the sandwich and fries separate you are not saving much at all. Value wise, mise well get the drink (the box)

understood. but he has the option to purchase a used tivo with a lifetime subscription with it. then he only needs to pay for the cable cards each month. there wouldn't be a seperate payment to tivo. that way he saves significant money.
