Ah found glorystar, I think not being able to find access America caused a panic. I stepped away and came back looked for the glorystar channels I found 3 "star 1,3, and 5" appears the dbs3500 is working just fine.
Been away from the game for a bit, I think I want a HD receiver now!

I haven't looked at mine in a while either but I'm pretty sure you can rename the satellites on it with the remote control.

and how to edit or add a satellite
Turn receiver off, then back on with the power switch in the back.
On remote...
hit menu
go to Installation
go to Antenna Setup. To the right of Satellite the cursor will be highlighting the satellite name.
on the bottom of the screen you will see
button #1 will rename the satellite
button #2 will Add a satellite
button #3 will Delete the satellite selected.
hit button #2 to Add a satellite, the satellite name will change to "New Satellite"
hit button #1 to rename the satellite
Exit and save
