The network has eliminated much of the suspense from its schedule announcement for 2006-07 by picking up 14 series for next season. The roster includes three freshman shows -- sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" and dramas "Criminal Minds" and "Ghost Whisperer" -- along with all three "CSI" series, "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race."
Most of the Eye's other crime shows -- "NCIS," "Without a Trace," "Numb3rs" and "Cold Case -- got the green light for next year as well, as did "Two and a Half Men," its top-rated comedy, and venerable newsmagazine "60 Minutes."
For the moment, CBS has but three comedies locked in for next season. In addition to "Two and a Half Men" and "How I Met Your Mother," the network has given an early commitment to "The Class," part of this year's pilot crop.
Veteran sitcom "The King of Queens" hasn't heard word of its fate yet, though there have been previous rumblings that this season may be its last. "Yes, Dear" is pretty much a certainty to be gone, and chances for "Still Standing" don't look particularly rosy either. Freshman comedies "Out of Practice" and "Courting Alex" won't hear a verdict until after their move to Wednesday nights later this month.
CBS also has yet to decide on its other newsmag, "48 Hours Mystery" and the drama "Close to Home." Two more shows, "The Unit" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine," will premiere over the next week.
