Teradata Executives Will Also Share Insights at the Hyperion Solutions 2007 Conference

DAYTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR - News), the global leader in data warehouse-driven enterprise analytics, has announced that EchoStar Communications Corporation, (NasdaqISH - News), parent company of DISH Network(TM), the fastest-growing pay-TV provider in the United States, will deliver a presentation outlining its Teradata Warehouse initiative in an April 25 breakout session at the Hyperion Solutions 2007 Conference held at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel in Orlando, Fla. EchoStar will discuss best practices in enterprise analytics using mutual technologies from Teradata and Hyperion.

Widely recognized in the communications industry for its research and development activities, EchoStar provides Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) television products and services through its DISH Network(TM) to over 13.1 million customers nationwide. DISH Network is a single source for equipment distribution, sales, installation, service and programming.

"Built around the Teradata Warehouse, our business intelligence analytics portfolio delivers a high quality of fresh, detailed insight to our users," said George Vigil, manager of enterprise analytics for EchoStar. "We use enterprise-class intelligence, leveraged through Hyperion and other key applications, to reduce customer churn with more effective retention campaigns, reduce our accounting close cycle time, and provide important performance metrics to executives. It's an effective engine for empowering users and gives us significant visibility and control over our business information assets."

EchoStar has continued to upsize and upgrade its Teradata platform in recent months, while adding new solutions and services such as Teradata Warehouse Miner, Teradata CRM, and Teradata Global Consulting - which expand the business value derived from the company's data.

"EchoStar proficiently employs leading-edge analytic tools on a centralized, integrated data warehouse to better understand and serve its customers and to manage its financial performance," said Anthony Samuels, industry vice president for Teradata. "We expect EchoStar will have a compelling presentation - one that communicates its best-in-class utilization of enterprise intelligence, as well as its ongoing relationships with Teradata and Hyperion in its aggressive pursuit of higher performance."

Teradata speakers presenting at the Hyperion Solutions 2007 Conference include Randy Lea, vice president of product and services marketing, who will speak on "Delivering Active Enterprise Intelligence," along with Hyperion vice president of product marketing Rich Clayton. Teradata product manager John Cunningham will present on "Business Performance Management and Enterprise Financial Analytics"; and Teradata engineering consultant Jerry Voutilais is presenting on the topic of Hyperion and the Teradata Warehouse. In addition, Teradata customer BNSF Railway Company will present on its award-winning financial performance management system enabled by Teradata and Hyperion.

I've been involved with a Teradata installation from the customer end. Based on that experience, horrible customer service decisions and complete lack of "business intelligence" is what I would expect Echostar to get from the product, so apparently they're meeting expectations.

With the way Teradata consulting works (or rather, doesn't work since they tend to know absolutely nothing about even their own product), I'd actually be quite shocked if Echostar actually has a usable running Teradata and Business Intelligence setup operating, as opposed to having spent millions of dollars on nothing working except the ability to publish a press release about it.

But having something working at all is probably "Phase II" or "Phase III" of the project.

    ADVERTISING BOX

There did not seem to be one intelligible sentence in the release above. Typical corporate double-speak saying nothing.
