it seems there is a sign of hope that Yamaha can, and will, fix the clipping problem with a firmware upgrade by the end of this summer. (They've announced the fix for one of their higher end models, but all the others use the same HDMI chip sets, so theoretically a fix is possible across the line.)

Fortunately, I'm within my 30-day window at BB on the 663, so if a comparable receiver emerges (goes on sale) within my $450-$550 price range (again, they don't sell Onkyo), I can go with that instead.
