Surround sound with UHF remote, does it exist?
ADVERTS 1
My 50" plasma is proudly mounted on the newly constructed fireplace surround and it looks great. The DVR is remote mounted under the floor in the basement out of sight.
The setup works perfect and now I need to add a surround sound unit but I'm not interested in having those cheap ugly looking amp/DVD units sitting in plain view. I prefer an amp/DVD that can be mounted in a nearby closet out of sight.
I've looked at quite a few units and I can't find a surround sound amp/DVD that uses a UHF remote. Anyone have any suggestions for a system at a budget price?
Thanks,

Your only budget option will be to go with an IR repeater setup.

I agree. There are many repeaters out there. Here is one example of a good one:

The thought of going down to the basement to change out a DVD simply boggles the mind. You will never use it because of the hassle.
Also, you went to the trouble of hanging that hi def plasma. Isn't it worth spending a few $$$ for sound and source equipment. I'm thinking Blu Ray player and step up audio. Then there is the issue of the speakers. If room esthetics are a major issue, how about in wall speakers. They have the least intrusive appearance and will sound much better than those that come with cheap HTIB setups. Frankly, I think those speakers are a lot uglier than the unit itself. And I have a set of them. Last time I did this, I bought last year stuff off of e-bay and ended up with very respectable Klipsch in-walls for about $100 a speaker.

The DVD player would be mounted in a small nearby closet, not in the basement.
Skibum - Thanks for the info, that looks like just the ticket.
