    How about the AV Rack?

Do you see problems with dust from an open rack? Enclosed racks with proper ventilations run at and well over 600$. Kind of expansive!

Does it boil down to esthetics? I suppose rear access is a must for any closed racks?

Not quite sure what you are asking. Most of us have open or semi-enclosed racks. There are several discussions here in enclosing and ventilating racks.

Dust happens. It happens in enclosed racks too, just not quite as fast. The wise enthusiast follows a regular maintenance schedule. Even then, stuff eventually gets inside and sooner or later you need to do a more thorough cleaning. Again, we have written on that subject about corrosive solvents, air blasting components off the board, dusting causing static discharge and vacuuming causing all of the above along with being ineffective. The key is to stay on top of it and be careful in your cleaning. If you don't understand it, stay away from it. In addition to damaging stuff, there are potentially lethal voltages inside.
