Thread: PS3 Premium Online Services

I love some of the features, but I already pay monthly for my 360, it was here first and has been a good machine, I don't see myself replacing that experience with this one (largely due to that's what all my friends play, I havent been successful in getting others to get a PS3) OR paying for a 2nd console's 'premium' offerings.
The 360 got many of us accustomed to paying for some of this stuff, and the PS3 now doing it will just get us accustomed to choosing one over the other with our wallet.
Doing this 3 years after launch also looks more like a money grab than anything, this would have all been OK if it were like this at launch... but it's been pretty clear for a while they were out-innovated by the 360's online experience. Now they're working on a better Wii controller for the PS3, while MS goes the way of innovation with Natal (unproven, so TBD how that pans out). At some point Sony will stop copying and innovate themselves (cloud saves is cool, but it's also already done on the PC over Steam).

I'd love cloud saving. I always worry about having my HDD fail and losing ALL my saved progress in my games. Granted, I'd prefer that Xbox provide that capability since I have many more saved games for that than I do the PS3...
Find me on Twitter (no, my name on there isn't the same as here)

I have the NetFlix disk. Are they going to include NetFlix native to XMB? If so why would that be any better than the disk? Why would anyone pay to use it vs request a free disk from NetFlix?
Current System:
FTA: Traxis DBS3500 receiver, Xtreme II LNB, Fortec .9m dish, SG2100 Motor, Uniden UST4600 slave, Twinhan Starbox II
Dish Network: Dish1000.4, 622 receiver

The convenience of not needing a disc in the drive to access it. It's a pretty stupid requirement if they're going to offer a service that allows you to bypass that need. This would be one of the clear moneygrab features.

A new Roku would pay for itself in 10 months, and BD-player with NF access in under 20 months. It would be nice if they offered disc-free NF for a small fee for those not interested in one of these premium packages that included it...say a one-time $20 fee.

I am wondering how the extended warranty works, is that only people who buy a new ps3, or would my ps3 all of a sudden go into a 3 year warranty...hmmm sony seems to be just throwing a ton of stuff out there and seeing what sticks and what people like.

Yeah, it might be worth it if it was a service guarantee program in which the $150 fee would be waived whenever you had to send in any PS3 (all would be grandfathered) for servicing. Otherwise, there are probably better ways to get warranties extended (Squaretrade, retailer, credit card co., etc.)

So far this is only a survey that's being floated around by Sony to gauge interest. I don't think they have definite plans yet on what's going to be included in the Premium service but I'm hoping In-game Chat remains free.
