Been a while since I spent much time in the FTA area due to work and the fact that it's summer so not alot of TV time in general.

Anyways, thought I would share that I noticed that the coolsat 8000's were going pretty cheap used on ebay. I picked up one for $149 shipped and it should suit me well.

What else exciting is going on in FTA this summer? I can't possibly catch up on all the threads.

With the card swap underway on both Bell and Dish, I've noticed some prices starting to come down on FTA gear. I'm going to be patient and wait for the card swap to be completed before I go and snag some equipment for pennies on the dollar ;) I really want a coolsat 8000 for DVB-S2...

That's exactly why I grabbed it and wanted to share with everyone.

I was going to hold out like you are for stuff but I really wanted to get to play with it sooner than later.

I just picked one up , for the same reason. Haven't seen an s-2 feed , though, on Ku since I bought it. :(
I did catch an s-2 sports feed about a month ago on a tt-3600 box. The CS8000 menu system is a kludge, but once you set it up, it works just fine, good motor control, great for PBS and retrojams with builtin AC3 decoding. Good value receiver for the going prices.
:)

I searched on E-Bay for the 800 and they are still over 200 bucks :(... Any tricks finding one for that magic $150? :)

If you need help with setup let us know.

i will :) couldn't get the channel list to download so i tried to configure one satellite manually and it worked but second satellite i tried to configure would only change the settings of the first. I wasn't using it to move a dish just to pick a LO and work through a diesqc switch.

one thing i did notice is ( and this is the way it looks to me ) that you can select several ways to set it up so maybe i was doing it wrong. i'm probably describing that wrong .... i'm not at the box so i will probably start a new thread tonight when i'm at the box.
thanks

If you need help with setup let us know. Its a quirky box but works great :)

Yeah, I was reading the review on it. I'll be sure to post any questions that might come up. I'm sure when I get it, I'll have to load the clean file then the latest firmware as odds are I bought the unit from a hacker.

gabsphere (or anyone) where did you get a channel list for the 8000? Did I miss it in the review?

Setup is confusing. I had a head start because it's the same as my first STB, an Ariza Extreme, now long sold. In the antenna setup screen, you'll notice that you have numbered positions. You need to put the sats you want to get, in seperate positions, and set up the details there. It's kludgy, and easy to eliminate a previous satellite, but it does work, once you get the hang of it.
I start my list from the east, and AMC6 is #1, #2 is Horizon-2, #3 is AMC5 , etc, working my way across the arc. Hope this helps, and it makes more sense when you're at your box.

well when i got set up it list satellites under dish and it also list them under satellite
but i suspect its nothing like the 5000 and i have to setup Dish for each satellite and then select the same satellite in the satellite area , does that sound right ?

well i was originally thinking i could download my coolsat 5000 channel list and use it in the 8000 but so far thats not been the case so back to square one :( i don't even know what is the latest filmware is so i need to look at that .

you can get all KU and DBS from 61.5 to 148 with it...there is 31 slots and I did it the same way when I motorized. went
61.5
72
72.5
74
79
82
83
85
87
89
91 Ku
91 DBS
93
95
97
99
101
103
105
107
110
111.1
113
116.8
119
121
123
127
129 Ku
129 D
148

Now when 125 comes along ya have to delete something from the list :)

Mine is slaved. Have the following set up
C-Band
123
119
74
79
motorized (both KU & DBS)

123 & 119 are on one 4x4 multi and 74/79 is on another. I created 2 satellites
0.0W MOTORIZED
0.1W DBS

then when I scan a HD feed I can easily remove the channels from a weekend of scanning.

Also if you do a manual scan and manually enter a TP the channel logs but the TP doesnt show in the list :)

I plan on slaving this and using my traxis for blindscaning. The 8000 never did get blindscan capability correct?

Thanks for the setup tip Iceberg. I'm actually looking forward to receiving it and playing cause I will be using it for OTA also, just to my email that it shipped today.
