Today a scroll ran across the tops of two stations in the Tri-Cities TN/VA DMA #92 urging DirecTV customers to call Dish or their local cable system so they would not loose these two channels. The channels involved are WCYB TV 5 (NBC) and WEMT TV 39 (FOX). This is the Bristol TN/VA, Johnson City TN, Kingsport TN, a good portion of southwest VA and a small are of KY.

It appears that the crawl might have been in error, see DBSTalk.Com - View Single Post - Losing Locals in TN (?) Any advice?

"You're not losing them....that was a station group playing hardball. A deal was struck with the station group as D* and them have been in negotiations for awhile. Why they chose to put up this screen crawl is interesting. Nevertheless, you are not losing any local channels."

"The agreement came later today, but for some reason they felt the need to jump the gun and put this out there. Unfortunate. The games people play."

Just a quick question cause I see this a lot.

Why does everyone think that E* is the only one that has issues with channels?

I've never had D* and don't plan on going so I have no idea what goes on there. I just think that every provider has to have problems with ongoing contracts.

I don't think that's the case but past history has show that E* tends to have more of these types of battles, not only with locals but national channels and the nationals effect all their subs making it a more visable problem.

Off topic, but I sure wish I could get Tri-cities. I miss the good old "Johnnie Woodpecker" from channel 5. Is he still the weather man over there? I'm only about 20 miles from their towers, living just on the NC side of the border. Stone Mtn blocks every TN/VA station out there. I would gladly pay for a second DMA if it were legal.
