Still drifting east, but like .15 deg. per day now.

35757 km x 35791 km and in the box.

All they have now is tinkering around a few km

These satellites are about the size of a bus -- is spacecraft positioning really so imprecise that they need over 60 miles of separation between them?

1) They drift ever so slightly in their orbits.

2) With satellites costing $100 million and up plus taking several years to replace is it a bad idea to make sure that satellite A (when moving) stays outside of the entire 'box" that satellite B operates in?

I have a 1 question that I know all of you posters to this thread will be able to answer: Are all satellites used for TV positioned at the equator, because they have to be geosynchronous? I guess what I am asking is, do all geosynchronous satellites sit at the equator?

No, you can be geosynchronous and not be at the equator. However, if you're not at the equator, you're not in [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geostationary_orbit"]Geostationary orbit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Geostat.gif" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/49/Geostat.gif/220px-Geostat.gif"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/4/49/Geostat.gif/220px-Geostat.gif[/ame].

So yes, if you want to look up in the sky and see the sat in the exact same spot every hour of every day, it needs to be at the equator.

However, if you just want the sat to be in the same spot for one moment of every day, it can be in geosynchronous orbit and not be at the equator.

Maybe 128.8 is the real destination. Seems to be parked there.

Code:
CIEL-2

Once it goes live, if it stays at 128.8, guess I'll have to repeak my 26" dish for that location...

Sheesh, E5 is practically worthless now since they moved it over a bit. Even my 26" dish can't keep a solid lock on E5 for more than 20 minutes at a time now...

The final destination is 128.85, per the Schedule S. As I recall, the stated purpose was to keep the satellite away from the usual traffic at 129 and minimize the possibility of collisions while still being at the "nominal" 129 location.

ah fitzie that was the info i was looking for. i was talking bout re-peaking my dish cause a)you cant peak a wobbly satellite signal b) the new 129 will be slightly diff than the orig so a slight tweak wont hurt. I knew it wasnt going to be exactly where 129 is now but every one pointed at 129 now will still easily get a signal may not be fine tuned though.I know im a signal strength guru geesh. and yes thank you john we appreciate all the effort u have put forth in this. Lots of peeps including me cant wait to get the new signal. Hmm my eyes are now geared at the uplink reports.

Welcome Home!

Hummn... I'm seeing a lot higher signal stregnth on several TP's from 129 right now... TP 19 is still toast but some are higher than usual.. (In Vancouver WA, not the coast right now)...

Wonder??

nope trust me i just looked thats just good ol e-5 wobbling badly im actually 12 points lower than my normal atm its going back up though.(transponder 6 is the worst one during normal times its bout 42 wobbly times 30-40) im hoping friday that ciel 2 will live and kick e-5 in the balls and send it to the 148 graveyard.

as i just noticed looks like OKC hd locals will be on Ciel 2 in the somewhat near future. http://www.satbeams.com/footprints?beam=5865
as much as i like them being on 110 that spotbeam is dead center okc i love it. hello SS of 85 again oh yea
