I dont know too much about the inner workings of New HDTVs so I never even thought about this happenning until it did.
The otherday I was on Dish Earth Channel ,mostly liked the Music channel they had on so I left it on that station while I did other things around the house.About 6 hours later I was leaving so I went to turn off TV and when I did I had a Burn in of the Dish Earth channel. Now when you turn on TV you can see the Earth especially in a darked room. Its been 2 days and you can still see it.I admit this isnt a top of the Line TV and fortunatly the TV I dont use as much as my Other one,but it is still annoying.Oh by the way the TV is a 32 inch sylvania(so buyer beware).
I dont know if the picture (or inprint will fade)but I will see.Just thought people should know

I found out why this problably happenned on this Channel, usually this channel moves ever so slightly as the earth moves, but the satellitte image was auctually frozen (Still frame)I dont know if this happens all the time is just a fluke on the day I had it tuned in.I am trying some of the tricks mentioned in the Posts and see if it can get rid of the Burn in.

If it is an LCD, it should go away soon.
If not, try leaving the TV on channel 1 (or any other channel that has "snow" on it) or there are DVD's you can buy or burn yourself that have random "patterns" that will you play on loop on your TV.

The randomly changing patterns like the channel 1 "snow" is the best way to remove the "burn in"

Good Luck!

Chk menus

Chk in the menus and see if there is a diagnostic or test pattern that you can use for running to remove it. My Panny has (but it is a near top line plasma) one.

Sorry for the hijack, I have a question: will this method help at all for an old rear projection TV with separate R G B tubes? I've apparently watched too much letterbox on mine and it has pink stripes at the top and bottom whenever we watch anything fullscreen. How many days/weeks/months should I let it show "snow" to have any effect?

Probably not

It doesn't sound good to fix your problem. With CRT's the burn in becomes part of the phosphors in the tube. It is not very likely that it will fix that. Burn in with LCD and plasma has to do with the pixel staying turned on a bit and the things that clear the triggers that are allowing a little bit of color to stay on.

To experience burn-in on an LCD, you just about have to be a dedicated BIT (burn in terrorist).

If Plasma, hopefully your TV has a screen clean mode, which you can run for 12 to 24 hours, depending on what your manual says.

I have the Earth channel on whenever I am doing things during the day and not really paying attention to the TV, but only on my LCD TV. You really should never leave this channel on a Plasma TV (especially ones without pixel shifting-anti burn-in feature) for more than a few minutes at a time unless you want burn-in.

All Plasma TVs I've seen have a clear screen feature to "burn out" any mild burn-in. But it does take some time.

See ya
Tony

Sorry, your out of luck. CRT burn in is permit. You could try the other fixes I mentioned, but you probably won't see a difference.

I think your problem, however, is that your R G and B tubes are mis-aligned and need re-calibrated. Sometimes this can be done yourself by adjust the convergence, other times it requires a professional to open the set, and manually to do it.

Does your alignment issues look similar to these? If so, google to learn more about convergence for Projection CRT's.

I had the convergence problem a while back on my Sony RPTV and it went away after a while without doing anything. If it happens again, I now know what it is and how to fix it. Thanks sdschramm!

My convergence is fine, I adjust it occasionally using the TV's service mode. Unfortunately this is definitely a case of burn-in.

I thought Dish Earth was just one of the SiriusXM channels music. Perhaps better to use the actual music channel where they move the words around to avoid burn in. Looks like they are running 6033 right now (Sirius The Bridge - Mellow Rock).
