Superstation package is only available on Dish Network. Stations are WPIX, WWOR in New York, WSBK in Boston, KWGN in Denver and KTLA in Los Angeles. WGN in Chicago is not a Superstation any longer. Cost is 5.99 a month on Dish.:)

Man, that makes my mouth water :) Reminds me of the C- Band days. I didn't know Dish has those....but it's not enough to switch from DTV. I wonder what the chances are of seeing these on DTV some day or does Dish have an exclusive deal for the supersta's?

Yeah I also used to get the superstations on cband too. That has been to this day the only thing that Dish does have that DTV has never had unfortunately. I tried to ask DTV about this years ago when I first changed over. To them all the superstations we know of are considered "local tv channels" rather than superstations so they are not avail on DTV like we used to get them on Cband.

They are not as tempting as they used to be.

First, few of them even show pro sports anymore and most games either went to other networks and/or RSNs
Second, non of them are in HD at a national level
Third, they all pretty much show the same syndicated programming now since they are not as locally centered as they used to be.

WSBK has the 3 stooges on Sunday :)

WPIX & WWOR have Mets (20ish games) & Yankees (20) games
KTLA has the Clippers

They used to carry more. That is my point.
Mets and Yanks are primarily on SNY and YES respectively and every game is in HD on those channels.
KTLA used to have the Dodgers and Angels and now the Angels are on KCOP and the Dodgers are on KCAL with most of the games on FSNWest and FSN Prime Ticket respectively.

These Superstations are not what they used to be.

I had the Superstations package for 12 or 13 years and decided this month that it wasn't worth the extra $6 month.

Amazing that this question is STILL asked to this day...

If you D* subs just GOTTA have the supers, then get them. All you need to do is get any cheap (used) DISH receiver & either a cheap D500, or you can even get by with a plain single sat dish (an old D* 18" works fine) aimed at 119. Slap it up, then just sub to the supers a la carte + the $6 prog access fee. (for another $4, you can add local channels as well - if you're so inclined, you could even get a different set of locals to supplement your "real" locals on D* ;) ;) ) You can also add the FREE PI pkg to your prog as well, although it would be best to use a D500.

There are several of us here that have done this very thing & like having the flexibility...but as others have said, they really are NOT what they used to be. Since I already get a couple of CW & MNT affiliates besides them, about the only thing I use them for is the news from NY & LA.

Yeah I gotta say the shine has wore off the penny...

When I first got D* in 2000 I was 16--and had no access to The WB... it drove me nuts--I got & paid for my own system & programming (parents were happy with the 3 channels I grew up with OTA) and was very disappointed that one of the networks I really wanted to get was not there--and had just left WGN the previous October. I held off a switch--after all I had more TV than I had ever had in my life--and by the time that the WB was included in Seattle locals they were on their way down/I outgrew it.

That being said, now that The WB and UPN have deteriorated into what is now The CW and MyNetworkTV (what network shows are even on MNT? I don't think I've ever watched one), and are available in most local markets anyway, what really would be the point to paying 6 bucks a month--other than if they carry one of your favorite teams, or you are from one of the cities and want some hometown news?

I'm back to only wishing D* would pick up another couple movie channels (HBO Comedy? anybody? lol) since those are really the only thing I watch now anyway.

You're right. At the end when I last had all the superstations they were not really superstations anylonger. All the channels had become nothing more than worthless WB affiliates. If Im right thats the same time they started cutting down on the pro baseball coverage as well back then. Today you don't really have superstations these days. Even the two that I used to love in STL are no longer superstations like channel 11 (KPLR) and 30 (KDNL) just like the ones we've been talking about thats what they became and like you said recently now all they are are worthless CW affiliates.

TV in motels while on the road is not as interesting as it used to be. Back before the syndicated shows became the norm, it was fun to browse through channels and find a show you hadn't seen in a long time. Now it seems that there is no local flavor to any city. Everything is practically the same as it is here in town. In fact, even the city life seems to be watered down...the same stores and restaurants in very similar strip malls or shopping centers. Downtown has as much luster as Superstations. It was a fun era, but certainly past its prime.

Yankees on My 9 has been available on EI since last year and the Mets on WPIX has been on EI since around the All Star break.

Actually they were NEVER "superstations", in the sense that they were NOT distributed via satellite. They were, for lack of a better word, "regional supers", because they were distributed via microwave landline links in the midwest. We too used to have KPLR-11 up here on cable from the 60's thru the early 80's, after our local cable system dropped it when they added WTBS.

just like the ones we've been talking about thats what they became and like you said recently now all they are are worthless CW affiliates.

Actually NOT all are - WWOR is MNTV, while WSBK went back to being an independent... ;)
