So how long do you think the Dish/Turner dispute will last?

Here's a possible alternative. It's called Play On. Don't know much about it but it looks like for a 1 time fee of $60 you get access to many channels on a variety of devices including Roku

For the $60 you don't actually get access to any more content. Their device just makes it easier to watch video programming from those networks on a TV, the same programming offered on their web sites. So if you need a cable/satellite login for some particular show or the live stream - you still have to have that.

The whole Play On website is really deceptive and looks to have been set up primarily to trick people into thinking they're getting all these cable stations when they're not.

Aren't a lot of the "reality" shows on TruTV really scripted like a sitcom?

I have a neighbor that has a master's degree and that person is a complete idiot! ;)
I worked with some really intelligent egg headed engineers when I was active duty assigned to a R&D squadron at Nas Pax River. Some of these engineers had no common sense what so ever, one of them held multiple phd's and you could give him a module or a card and he could tell you exactly what the components did or the card did.

It's funny though that the egg heads and scientists, inventors ,that lack all that common sense, make a lot of money ,more than the rest of the population that has all that common sense. Maybe it is a lack of common sense ,that enables them to see things in our world in a different light and they are the ones that help invent all kinds of things we all use today. We spend all our money on the newest technology that helps make them all richer. :biggrin

War is the mother of all invention.

You mean he could not tell you?

I don't get you people that are complaining that your cartoon channel or whatever was dropped.
I am sure there are many facets to the negotiations, but at the end of the day, the channels were pulled by CNN, because Dish wouldn't agree to pay what CNN wanted. Sure Dish wants to make a profit, but they are really looking out for the customer by trying to contain rates. Go ahead and switch to Comcast or whoever, and watch your rates go up every year. You can bee 110% sure, that if CNN increases their rate to Dish, Comcast, or anyone else, that YOU will see a rate increase. I applaud Dish for trying to keep rate increases under control but at the end of the day it is the programmers driving the bus.

If you could get a package that didn't contain any sports channels, your bill would be half of what is today. Why isn't that offered? It would be a big hit with non-sports fans, or people on limited budgets. Because Disney who owns ABC and ESPN, won't allow it. People here should be protesting and boycotting the programmers, not Dish as the provider.

Rant over.

I understand your point fully. It is Turner that is being a problem because they want more bucks. Which is why I didn't instantly attack Dish and demand money in compensation for the temporary loss.

But now as this drags past a week, I'm left with a situation. TCM is one of the only channels I really really need to have. It is one of the only reasons I subscribe at all, NBCSN being the other. I pay a decent amount monthly, and while Dish has their and my interests in mind, I'm effectively paying nearly $85 a month to not get one of the channels I am specifically paying to have.

Again, not angry at Dish, but there is a financial issue at hand now.

But we all know, this will be wrapped up soon. To large of names to go on much longer. Both companies need it, not just one side or the others.

Can ChadT41's post be reported for jinxing the whole darn thing?

Just hate the fact that no matter what happens, in the end our bills will still go up. How exactly is Dish looking out for us when my bill continues to go up every year?
