There seems to be a complete misunderstanding of what ala carte means. It means an individual item. It does not mean an individual service consisting of several items.
Guess what..a individual service is a individual item...you want cbs..you get cbs bundle..etc etc..as close as we will ever get to ala cart
 
And you have to juggle multiple services, payments and logins on possibly multiple devices, no thank you. I have netflix, prime (mostly for shipping), and now Discovery+, I will not be cancelling any of them monthly or setting up different services. I don't want to have to deal with it on multiple devices in multiple bedrooms for myself, wife and stepkids, just not something I want to deal with. I do subscribe to some services but they are ones that we use regularly in addition to the satellite service. I see what you are saying but it is not for me.
Satellite and cable going away...in a loong time..but I think individual channels are already shutting down

Ya know, the reason they started in the first place.

I for one will NOT have 5-10 different services to get what I use to get on Sat/cable.

Channels are expensive to run...cable/ satellite constantly losing customers...meaning lower sub fee totals = less profit...streaming shows relatively cheap ( internet distribution).. fewer employees..higher profits..no need for" a channel"..not to mention custom advertising crafted for indivudual users..also able to track viewing habits much easier..better advertising oppurtunities..no middle man to take a cut..and the list goes on and on

Welcome to the future, broadcasters are all dreaming of becoming the next Disney+ (86 million subs in just a year) or Netflix (195 million subs).

If Discovery+ just had 10 million subs, that is roughly $600 ( at $5 a sub per month) million dollars a year, then they get to keep all the ad revenue also, no sharing with providers who are still paying Discovery to carry the channels.
 
I will worry about it when it actually happens. They will have to pry my DVR from my cold, dead hands.
By skipping commercials ( i do it too).. you are hastening the demise of broadcast channels who survive off of ads..meaning higher cable fees

And a few shows are being moved exclusively to Discovery+. Restaurant Impossible is one I used to record to play in the background. Another from HGTV, the name escapes me at the moment, moved as well.
 
The main thing I noticed is Discovery+ has a much nicer picture then Traditional Providers since everything is in 1080P ( and some things in 4K).

I hardly ever use my DVR anymore for any channel, I rather wait until all the shows I watch are complete for the year and are on a streaming service, then I can binge and have the better picture/sound quality.

Yes, Expedition Bigfoot moved from TRVL exclusively to Discovery+, I used to watch it but wasn't willing to pay extra and would've waited for reruns to show up on TRVL. The wife wanted it mainly and I just found a way to accomodate her and only increasing the net total spent by $1. So not a total loss, lol.

And the customer suffers ...
Can't wait till the Streaming options continue to go up in prices, sometimes MORE than once a year (Sat only goes up once)
Then the Internet providers will start raising prices, not to mention raising pricing for Caps.

Difference is no contract..no equipment..you just cancel

Considering that steaming services are the only ones to be gaining subscribers, it would prove you incorrect, it is what the majority of people want to watch.

The only thing lacking is maybe some sports, but as revenue continues to decrease at Traditional Providers because of the loss of customers, how long do you think it will take them to embrace streaming more then they do now.
 
If you can't watch what you want, whats the point ?
But you can.
Watch what you want that is, and gain access to more content that isn't available with the traditional providers.
And you don't have to pay for it all at once.

Personally, dropping the traditional live TV providers is the best decision we have made for TV entertainment . We have Way more that we actually want to watch than we did before, without being forced to pay, for a large part, for things we may not want.

Streaming services are gaining subs now, sure .... give it some time, once it all settles in, they won't be ...
You say they are gaining, yes, individual services may be, but the ones that are raining thier prices from $40 to $60 and up are NOT gaining subs.

I typically will turn a service on for a particular show and then back off the next month like most .... however, I also will keep some for the year ...
Netflix and AP for example, this way if I have nothing I need to watch, I still have a few services I can always know is there to find something when needed.

The thing I find bad about going from one service to another and keep bouncing around is when you go back to a sub after you have left them, its a PITA to get back ... which you would think it wouldn't be, just put your old email and password in and your done .... nope.
I tried turning CBS AA back on (watched Picard and then turned off) had to catch up on a few shows I missed, tried to turn it back on with previous credentials ... no go ... took a day and a half to get it back on and a 2 hour phone call.

Sat, you don't need to go thru all that BS.
You turn it on, and your Done.

I am glad I don't have some of yalls problems when it comes to streaming services. I sub, I cancel, I resub. No issues. In the years I have had any of them, I have not called a single one.

I had to deal with sat customer service far more often to deal with issues, or to make deals on pricing.

If you mean Hulu Live and YTTV, both of their sub numbers are up, 3rd quarter was reported YTTV gained 500,000 and now over 3 million, Hulu Live is now over 4 million.

Unlike your DirecTV which lost another 600,000 subs last quarter.
