OK, today I was convinced by a stubborn 322 that I need a dial tone generator to by-pass the "connect an operational phone line to continue" screen that is generated on all dual tuners before activation. (Please refrain from accusations of deception, as I ALWAYS make the $5 phone line disclosure up front within the first five minutes of saying 'hello' to the customer.) The customer had no active phone lines, which is no problem. I just run my check switch, let it take the software download, then activate with the phone bypass. But for some reason, the 322 popped up that dreaded phone line prompt RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY CHECK SWITCH - WTF!?!?!?!. So I didn't even really know if the freaking reciever was in the stream, but I had no choice but to activate and hope that the phone by-pass did its job. So I activated, then sat there for 20 minutes. FINALLY the stupid screen disappeared. I ran my check switch, and was on my way. But I could have saved myself about 30 minutes or more in total if I would have been able to bypass that phone prompt immediately.
In short, does anyone know of a very cheap, small, reliable dial tone generator? I don't need to 'Test' any phone lines, I don't need to do anything fancy at all. I just want the stupid reciever to be happy and think it has a phone line connected for about 10 seconds.
