L4.03 on 622

One of favorite scenes from the movie "Spinal Tap" comes to mind...

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

thats classic

When I got L4.01, my stations ALL went to 100 whereas one was in the high-80s to low-90s range. It's now at 100 also. Thing is, a software change can't make the stations "stronger", it only changed the method used to calculate the number.

If they truly improved things *again*, what will my numbers go to ?? 105 - 110 ?? :D

I disagree. It's not making the stations stronger, but it may be doing a better job of interpreting the OTA signal therefore resulting in a stronger signal on the 622.

One of my local OTA channels dropped back down in signal quite a bit with the 4.03. Went from mid 90's to 77-83. Hope it's a local issue and not the software update.

4.03 seems to have slowed my channel changing. I had 4.01 before this.

Still 4 seconds for me till I see the picture with L4.03 . The sound comes in first then the picture. Previous L3.66 software had the picture come in first then the sound would catch up to the frozen picture.

No and they shouldn't. Just because it's digital OTA does NOT mean it's in HD. In fact, I have more non-HD digital channels than I've got HD (capable).
The OTA channels that are true HD (720p/1080i) should also have the HD watermark. Those channels are just as HD as the satellite channels.

I just noticed I got L4.03 also! WooHoo!! Hopefully the "bansheee blackouts" once an hour are gone also. My 622 has been virtually unwatchable for almost 2 weeks since that "Spawn of Satan" L4.01 update  possessed my 622.

So far I'm having some issues with OTA on a couple stations on the L4.03. Except on loss of OTA on the first night, OTA was rock solid with 4.01 for me.

The receiver knows.. Cause when you put it in ALL HD, the OTA's Show up.. So an HD tag would be appropriate so when you look in your recordings you could tell what is what.

It also lists my local ABC's subchannel, which is an SD simulcast. It lists my local CBS's subchannel, which is "Weather Now". It lists my local PBS's (5) subchannels, only one of which is HD.

L403

I still have multipath problems w/ 403. I haven't had time to tell if it is better or worse yet. With just a little time that I have watched the PBS HD channel that has it the worse seems to still have it just as bad. My Panny TU-HDS20 is still much better than the 622 (this is the oldest HDTV rec that I have). The FF & RW seems to work smoother. Channel change is now about 2 secs to audio & 3 to video.

Well L4.03 fixed the problems caused by L4.01. My MPEG4 channel changes are over twice as fast (about 4 sec now) and the FF and REW are useful again. :)
