With cable I could change which channel I was recording while watching a different channel. With DirectTV it seems I have lost the control to do this. Is it possible to do this with a standalone dvdr or am I going to have to invest in a special receiver unit?

I read the manual for the D11 receiver and it states that the S-Composite video is for best quality, then the rca cable for the next best quality and then the rf coaxial for the poorest quality connectors to other devices and tv. My question is, why does it matter if there is a coaxial cable...
