1 year is way too long for me for my Doctor Who. I'll gladly pony up $40-50 for a season to get it right after broadcast. I just hope when they add the prime app they don't take away the instant video downloading.

Not the current season. Only past seasons. I will see the finale on Dish this weekend. Then, if all goes well with the Tivo, Dish will be cancelled next week. The first Amazon Instant title I plan to buy is the Doctor Who Christmas Special. I'm not going to wait a year for it to show up...

Yes, it's expensive, but still way cheaper when you only care about two shows. Buying seasons of Doctor Who will be ~$40. I was paying ~$245 for that privilege before (3 months of Dish). The last 7 episodes of Mad Men will be $2.99 each. Plus, I at least know my money will go to my shows...

Why I got the premiere. It downloads Amazon Instant titles rather than streams. So it can take 6 or 7 hours overnight to download the HD.

Possibly. But I think that will be tough for broadcasters to do and get away with. The news will dig up plenty of people, including a lot of seniors, that will show why they rely on broadcast TV for weather warnings and the like, and how they can't afford cable. I at least don't see it...

I'm finally doing it. I'm saying goodbye to pay TV. I just got a used Tivo Premiere with lifetime on Ebay, and will be getting my programming almost exclusively from OTA, DVDs/Blu-Ray's from the library and my own collection, and Amazon Instant video. Prices keep going up, and the quality...

I forget the model number, but I believe Dish put together a 722-style DVR for use in cable company systems to compete with Scientific Atlanta, Motorola and the like. But cablecos, not wanting to do business with a competitor despite the superior offering, balked and it never made it to market...
