    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

I decided to raise myself from the dead after the customary three days. This will be my final post. I had a new set top box installed today and it is still not as clear as Direct tv on the HD channels. I understand for those who will jump on this immediately because we were only able to...

    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

I hereby self appoint (NO better yet, ANNOINT) myself as the all-knowing authority on picture quality and equipment. Now I have to go "kill myself" because it can't get any better than this.

Yes, ALL of my equipment is QUITE impressive. LOL

    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

I can see we are getting into a pi**ing match here. I would love to see the Neilsen ratings or ULTRA, AUCTION, GALLERY OR MOOV. And let me count the times I have said "I can't wait to see the new Video Art show" or how about this "Hey Bob, did you catch that On the Block Show last night...

    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

I never gave picture quality a second thought when I bought my Sony HD receiver. It was the menus that attracted me vs. Hughes and Samsung. I just expected to be able to plug the box in and enjoy great HDTV and that is exactly what happened. I use the tv to mindlessly watch the programming...

    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

I have a swap out occuring this Thursday on the V* IRD. Last night an icon appeared in the middle of my screen about 1/2" in size. It looks like a exclamation point. I turned the IRD off and then back on and it went away. It again appeared this morning and I cannot get rid of it. It is not...

Anyone have an upconverting DVD player?

I have the Samsung 931 connected via DVI and it does a nice job. Nice, not great. The picture was slightly better that my Sony dvd player and the picture was certainly not anywhere near the quality of my Direct HDTV. The remote is really cheap and limited in function and it looks like...

Sean, what model of TV do you actually own?

    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

Just got back from shootin' my video gig. An interesting thing happened. I was at my clients 'enormous" house checking locations out when I came into his video room. I mentioned his Sony big screen tv and noticed that he had the same Sony HD receiver as mine for D*. He proudly acknowledged...

    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

Thelma and Louise on my set didn't look as good as it should. I have to go shoot a video gig. I hope everyone has a safe and happy fourth. Remember what this day is all about and our people in the armed forces putting themselves in harms way to protect and preserve the ideals that this day...

    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

There have been some references on this forum that some of the older movies suffer because they are, well "old". However, when I was watching HDNET on D* and viewing the old sitcoms of Hogan's Heroes I was absolutely amazed at the clarity. I openly commented how the threads fraying on their...

    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

I didn't go with Plasma. I checked them out but there was flickering or artifacting in the skin tones. I went with the Pioneer Elite 530 rear projection. The technology was perfected and I didn't mind the size of the box. I chose this set vs. the larger 630 because they use the same guns and...

    Voom vs. Direct sucks!

OK here is a real loop for you. I have been concentrating on the PQ of HDTV because thats what I bought my tv for and have finally compared the PQ of non-HD with D* to V* and V* is better. Everyone here is complaining of the PQ in this realm. Go figure!

The movie "Catch Me if You Can" is playing on HBOHD right now and I own that DVD. I switched between the two and the DVD wins hands down. I think all will agree that shouldn't be the way it should happen.

Tried the component cable which is better but, still not great. Tried several component cables-we have plenty of the good ones laying around so I swapped them out just to be sure.
