I recently added Ku band to my C band 10' dish and was was watching History Channel on Ku one rainy day It kept fading out till I figured out what was going on. switched to C Band - NO Problem.

the Reason I like C band is the $ I get almost 30 hbo/Cinemaxes plus history, etc. for about $45 a month thru NPS.

Does anyone Know where Nick @ NIte has gone on 4DTV ? ps, I've recently added Ku to my expanded metal C-Band only dish. it's not all that difficult. Just make sure you aim at a good Ku sat (x4) to start with.

If it came with a C Band Only set up I would start with it. it is eaiser to set up and if you plan on using it for "normal" TV ( HBO, Starz Cnn and other SCHEDULED programming) a 4DTV reciever is fine. DSR920 or 922. I recently upgraded to KU, but it is mostly occasional feeds and more...

My experience has been if the DC lite won't come on it is a signal quality issue. I found out the hard way with an LNB that died a slow death. try peaking the dish and polarity. check the signal strength.. I think its 6..4..4..& enter a few times. ps. don't throw that 920 away!!!

RAdio Shack does carry an adjustable gain unit. it's fairly pricey ($50 )

Very interesting, but I wonder what material is used to cover the waveguide on some Ku LNBs. It is a clear thin celophane-looking sheet. could possably be glued onto the feed Horn directly???

Speaking of adding KU to an Existing C-Band system - How good of a LNB do I need for standard Ku programming (history channel etc)?? Are the requirements for Mpeg FTA much more tight???? I can get 2 meg LO for $30; 750 kHz for $80 and a good Norsat for about $200 (150 kHz I think) ?????

I had experience w/heat failure of a C-Band LNB I thought it was the reciever because I could unplug it to let it cool down & all would start to work again. I finally found it by putting an Ice cube in a baggie and laying it atop the LNB, worked untill the cube melted!
