trying to watch recorded show but screen is gray

I too am having this issue occasionally. The only seems to be resetting both HR24's. Would love to know the cause?

New to DirecTV .... just a couple things.

You should be able to set a sleep timer on your tv, once it turns off the D* box should go into standby mode (I think this is only true with a HDMI connection; someone please correct me if I'm mistaken)

Dish use the lack of remote usage as the indicator for inactivity. ie no button presses for three hours a message window pop-up stating that it turns itself of shortly due to inactivity, you have the option of pressing cancel.

Made the switch from dish to direct

It must be noted though that while the D* boxes can record OTA signals they can't record the OTA signal and also record two satellite channels at the same time like the E* boxes.

Hopefully they will update the smart phone apps as well. The app a wonderful tool for setting recordings on different DVR's, but it seems silly that this option doesn't exist on the DVR software.

    new direct customer

Call for quicker times. I called on a Sunday afternoon and had installers here Tuesday morning (install was one week ago). I'm in the Charlotte, NC region; install may vary by region.

Questions from another one looking to abandon the E* ship

I use a Harmony One with a HR24 with zero issues (I really prefer this over the official remote).

    Prospective new DirecTV Subscriber

The HR24 will record only two things at a time no extra OTA recording. I just switched and really miss that part of the 722. I do however have 2 HR24's (with MRV) so it will be a rare thing to not be able to record what I want.

    More questions (sorry)

My house is wired with Ethernet, the DECA unit has an Ethernet cable plugged in. The DECA then sends this signal over the coax to the Dual HR24's. Installer was rather impressed by this, made his job much simpler.

    More questions (sorry)

Whole home DVR: installer will need to tie into an unused coax cable near your router or an Ethernet cable that is connected to the router.

    New HD?

I really hope this is in the works. I just switched from E* and it caused me great pain to lose the ability to see Top Gear in HD (the monthly savings and MRV helps though).

    do i have this right?

I think there is also an option if paying a one time fee of $99 that doesn't come with a 24 month commitment.
