I'm a long time DirecTV subscriber (1995), but relatively new to High Def, and even newer to the DVR. I was under the impression that the new HR20 was the first High Def DVR. Was there one before the HR20? If so, is the primary difference the ability to record the new MPG4 broadcasts?

I have the Sony KDF-E50A10 with the HR20 using HDMI, and don't have any issues. I do remember seeing that some have reported issues with it, but don't remember what type of problems. To be fair, I'm only using HDMI for the video, as my audio is connected via optical cables to the receiver.

With the exception of WFAA-HD, they have been available since early December. There is another recent thread that suggests Belo has reached an agreement with DirecTV for WFAA-HD, but I'm not getting it yet.

As noted in a similar thread, DirecTV doesn't show WFAA-HD as an available local channel, and of last night, I'm not getting on my H20. Did you see this as an announcement or press release somewhere?

I'm in the Dallas/Fort Worth market, and WFAA (ABC) is still a hold out after more than 4 months. I periodically contact WFAA for an update, and the last word was that there was no pending resolution.

I also have the 8910, just recently bought it at Amazon for under $25. It didn't come with the codes for the H20, but it was easily upgraded via phone. When you connect with customer service, you just hold the remote up to the phone, and they send the codes. The process sounds like an fax...
