Dish Network in the Caribbean

I do not know if DN have people on this Forum but I will like to know why they (Dish network) do not make their programming available in the Caribbean.

I think the USVI and Peurto Rico have it but what happen to the rest of the islands. I am sure the signal is available down here maybe you may have to use a larger antenna. I an not sure if 119 is available but I know 110 amd 61.5 is using a 1.8m antenna or even a 1.5m.

The high price for Cable TV here which are showing a lot of rubbish will clean up their act if Dish Network or even DirecTV was available. For me I get some programming from G10R and AMC4 the other satellite aint saying much in terms of programming. Galaxy 25 not much in term of real good programming, they have some Christian TV I know.

There is a good market in the Caribbean and Dish Network should take advantage of it. Why put all your eggs in one basket? Dish is available in the CONUS but so to are the pirates who is getting the signal free and we down here have little or nothing to watch.

Some homes have just 1 channel on their TV and that's there country's national local channel. With a good outdoor antenna you might be locky to pick up another country's local station. Come on Dish Network there's a market waiting for you.
 
That does not stop people from the carribean, mexico, and centeral america from using a U.S. address to get the service. I remember the big complaints from relatives in Cuba when both E* and D* swapped the cards out. We had to get the card to my wifes uncle in cardenas and that was a pain in the ass.

You have the beach and cheap rum 365 days a year. I'll trade you yours for my Dish Network setup... haha..

Thats not entirely true. Marriott uses Dish Network at a lot of their properties in the Caribbean. I know for a fact that they do at my timeshare in Aruba.

If they have it is because they could have some sort of a corporate agreement, But to marketing for costumers outside the US or US territories they can not.
 
I was just in the Bahamas last week watching Dish. Freeport to be exact and Dish was giving them some locals out of Miami and New York. Mixture of both to complete the set.

Ptech a tech like yourself should know,I didn't said you can't watch Dishnetwork on the Caribbean, I said Dishnetwork can't make business outside the US and their territories ,and sadly that's a fact.

Just curious because I don't know the laws on this, but are you saying Dish is barred from offering service internationally? Is there a US law strictly prohibiting a satellite company from offering service to other countries? I know channel providers can go international, by making deals with the foreign government of course, but you are saying the providers themselves are barred from going into these countries?

If the cable offerings on all the islands are so bad, this would be a good opportunity for a company to launch a satellite service based in the country with the loosest laws, and offer service to the remainder of the Caribbean. I mean, all they would need is one satellite with plenty of offerings compared to the local island cable or OTA stations.
 
Since these cable companies offer crap for lot of money. In my case we have one Cable company who probable show the channels they can get free so they do not have to pay the network. That leave a lot of Island people to buy dishes and get whatever programming they can get even pirating. I think big company like dish can launch a satellite and atleast make two or three transponders available to the Caribbean.

The Puerto Rico spot beam is received as far as Trinidad and in my country I test it on FTA and get it at 90% quality, so I think DN can offer its business in the Caribbean and if they do it will bring in good business. I believe people in the Caribbean can receive all of Dish network East coast channels on 110 and 61.5. Maybe somebody needs to talk to them. All these talk about "FREE TRADE" and so much RED TAPES.
 
Last summer i went for Vacation to Venezuela....i saw commercials of DirectTV. If D* is in South America why not E*.

Also....i went to Tunisia this summer and everydoby there has satelites. Many of the dishes i saw had the name Echostar.

That exactly what I said , Federal laws prohibited Satcasters from the US doing business outside the US due the fact Countries have other center rules for Broadcast communications(Does Venezuela and RCTV thing ring a bell, Or Cuba regulating a US carrier??)To void International miss understandings in how a US carrirer do business or who have the primary duties to enforce certain laws is the main reason of this.

I don't know about laws specifically prohibiting it, but the program providers have strict rules over where they want their content available and at what price.

The Direct TV you saw in Venezuela is Direct TV Latin America and was put it together by the Cisneros Group [A Venezuelan Co.] with Direct TV USA acting as a small investor/partner, Its broadcast is for Latin American Countries [mostly Spanish Channels] But you can have Sunday ticket or any Sports package Direct Tv does, also you can get with them any Premiun packages, But is not the same Direct TV the US Continent have.
