New smart cards for dish net receivers

Hello all. A friend of mine told me a rumor, he claims dish network will start using new smart cards with most of their receivers as a way to fight piracy.
Does anybody knows something about it ?
When will it start ? When will it end ? After all they would have to send more than 13 million cards, this is if they had one receiver on each account, so I am guessing the total would be something close to 30 million new smart cards.

Where have you been? Guess you have to worry about your Viewsat going down. Your friend is wrong...it is for ALL receivers.

It has already started and will end when all the subscribers (paying customers) have the new cards. Dish also did this several years ago, so it is nothing new.

The new purple cards should be out to everyone by the end of January, or so I read.

I'm happy to see it. Fight thievery.

How do the purple cards work? Do they limit the geographic area of reception? How are they different from the cards they replace?
