How much does Fios TV really cost?

I already have Fios Internet and phone service. My monthly bill comes out to about 90.00 per month. I'd like to add TV and the advertisements seem to imply I'd only be adding about 10.00 per month if I bundle. But that really sounds too good to be true. What do the actual bills come out when you add TV (HD) with DVR?

Thanks for the info. I'll be moving to Fios soon, but only for voice/internet. Very happy with Dish and their DVRs. If after 2 years or so, Fios has a DVR equivalent to the ViP722, and is cheaper, I'll consider them for video.

They have different bundling packages. I have their extreme triple play, which gives me:

- Extreme HD TV
- 20/5 internet
- essentials phone

Total is $110/month. That doesn't include hardware, taxes and other fees. In terms of hardware, check out their website. You'll also pay a franchise fee on your TV service - what that is depends on where you live (it's really minimal around here, but can be substantial in other areas), and taxes. I was told, rule of thumb, add 9% to your bill and that covers the fees and taxes (including franchise fee).

There are other bundles out there - if you only want TV and internet, e.g. - which give really substantial savings. If you want HD, you'll need to make sure you bundle in with the Extreme HD TV package (vs. the FiOS TV Essentials, which is basically just SD, with HD locals). The Extreme HD also gives you, though, access to their former sports pack channels (they eliminated their sports pack in all areas, except for Northern NJ and NY), and those channels are now included in their Extreme HD package. That package gives you access to all their non-premium HD channels.

In terms of hardware, here's the current price list:

- SD Set top box - $6/month
- HD set top box - $10/month
- HD DVR - $16/month
- Multiroom HD DVR - $20/month

They also have a 'digital adapter' for $4/month. This is basically a very pared down SD box which doesn't give you guide data or access to VOD.

Extreme Hd package
20/5 internet
essentials phone service
home media dvr
2 other set top boxes(bedrooms)
all movie channels
after taxes and other fees bill comes to $172.00 a month

in VA they require you sub to a voice line pkg to get any service. Then they can abandon the copper.

As I recently posted elsewhere...

...we've had the Triple Play since our install back in April. We didn't need the landline, but the Flex Bundle wasn't available until recently. Anyway, I got tired of not being able to watch the Fox News HD, Fox Business HD, and ABC Family HD channels, so I called into Verizon about switching to the Flex Bundle. The CSR told me that switching would still incur a $200 cancellation fee. However, she also said that I could be moved to the upgraded Triple Play Bundle for the same price of $109.99 (upgrade to 20/5 Internet, upgrade to ExtremeHD, same old unneeded landline). Plus, I actually saved a few bucks since the DVR fee was waived for three months...and the new 12-month contract actually shaved 4-months off my existing contract.

Happy Camper here! I'll try to get rid of the landline again next year, but we love FiOS Internet and TV. The only wink link about FiOS TV is the HD DVR...if only they would field a better DVR that supported external storage. I would love to see EchoStar make Verizon's DVRs. We tried TiVo HD, but it wasn't any better (and more costly) than the FiOS box. If I had D* I would dump 'em in a heartbeat for FiOS TV. If I had E* I would dump 'em too, but we still miss using our 622s.

I'm not in VA, and these offers do vary by state, however, what you're saying isn't true. I know a number of people who don't have any Verizon phone service at all who have fios internet and tv. It makes billing interesting, but it most definitely can be done. I also know people who have fios internet and tv and have kept the phone service on copper.

Maybe it's only Fairfax County that let's them get away with it. Or is completely untrue. But I've had both Verizon reps and other customers tell me this.

Im a returning customer to fios from CV,
and called today and got this:

$95. TV, phone and internet for 1 year
free Home media dvr for 90 days
free HD receiver for 90 days
free HD receiver for 1 year
free Movie ticket HBO, Cinemax & Movie for 90 days

1 year contract but can cancel withen 90 days without early term. fee

I wasn't aware of the flex plan previously. I would really like to dump my landline and just go to cell & internet (and possibly TV but also have concerns about the DVR). I've been trying to find the pricing on flex packages but so far no luck. Anyone has a link or info on the flex pricing?

Thanks. Now I can reconsider if I want to keep my LL. I'm sure my wife will let me know. :p

Maybe I'm a dummy but it took me a while to figure out where to place an order:

Verizon | FiOS Internet: Plans

After playing around with it a little, I'm going to keep the landline and add the cell to the same account just because my existing records are totally tied to it. The left and right hands truly aren't connect to the same brain over there. And I agree it might be better just to come back to it and try again in a few months.

As far as the TV part of it, that's on hold too. I was toying with the idea of adding it to my current DTV service as a supplement if the costs were really small. But I think I'll do this one step at a time now.

As much as we like FiOS, our only complaint has been with the ordering and billing systems which, in my opinion, weren't designed to handle multiple FiOS accounts (phone, Internet, TV) - it took four months to square-away my account after the billing system botched the order. Hopefully Verizon has addressed these issues in the past few months because FiOS odering/billing was not the same as Verizon Wireless. On the other hand, all FiOS reps that we've dealt with are friendly and speak english.

DirecTv in my opinion had a better picture on my Mitsu WD62628. Which I still can't comprehend, given the bandwith of Verizon and non compression. Also, DTV had a few more channels. I just refused to pay 72 bucks/ month for Total Choice. So for a few channels less, I now have a 5/20 Internet better phone and HDTV for 20 bucks less on total.

With the news that DTV won't be adding more national HD this year I ordered Fios last night. 12/23 install. Hope they hurry up with external storage because that would seem to be the biggest weakness.

I'm in VA. Just got rid of the landline and went with a different package. I don't think they never required me to have voice, but it was part of the package I initially signed up (phone, internet, tv).

Yes, I think other posters have put that requirement to rest. I'll probably sub to the land line anyway, along with internet. But if I lose my job or we otherwise have to cut back strongly, that land line will be the first to go. We never use it. We use our cells.

I don't think you'll be disappointed... Just got installed yesterday. We were watching an SD channel last night when the Mrs. remarked how incredible the picture was compared to Dish... and she could do a side by side comparison.

The HD channels are stunning IMHO.

Enjoy your install. If you've already have their phone/internet it should take about 90 minutes to do all the swapping out. They sent 3 guys here and they were buzzing through like bees. It would have been a shorter install time but they were doing a cablecard install.

Since you have a 12/23 install you probably already have some part of it.
