I am a new customer and am happy so far except that I would like to add another DVR for my RV to my account so I bought a 625 used and a 500 dish with DP Plus LNB. I need a new smart card so I made many phone calls and finally was connected to the "RV" department where I was first told that I could be enabled if I sent a copy of my registration which I did. Then they connected me with another person that said that as I have an HD account (on eastern arc) that they wouldn't be able to add this receiver (on 110 and 119) to my account and I would have to pay for a separate account at the $44.95/mo price. Is this their policy? If so, I don't get it, I would be paying them to add the 625 but now I guess they want me to cheat and use my 722 when I go away, I was only trying to save myself the trouble of pulling out the 722 every time.

Thanks for your help, Dick

Now I get what the other post was about. I have you covered on this front. You can use the DVR (625) in the RV. I have to change a tag or two on the account to get it to actually allow it to be activated, but it can be done. The additional charge for the DVR is $17. Sometimes being able to think outside the box has it advantages. You would not be in violation of your contract using the 722 either. PM me a phone number and I can help you out with this.

After months of calls, emails and contradictory answers I finally gave up and switched my house to cable. Now I only use Dish in my RV. You're saying I don't need the CATV account? I've heard that before. I've also heard that one account for both was a violation and it could be cancelled. Is this clearly stated in writing somewhere?

I've never heard of an account being canceled because the cust took a rec out in their RV. There are probably hundreds if not thousands of people that take a rec with them or have an additional one just for the RV and have never had an issue.

The OP had a problem because his account was tagged as an EA only account which will not let mpeg2 equip be activated on it until TonyT changes it.

We take our 211k w/us to the NC mountains when we go in in our RV - May thru Oct. I had a 1000.4 dish set up on our site last year. My question is: If we wanted to change from our Jacksonville, FL locals to NC locals, would we be able to? JAX locals are CONUS and we get them now but I may be more concerned about when they are no longer CONUS. Thanks in advance.

My MIL has a small lake cottage about 15 minutes from our house. The reseller told us that we could get another dish set up there and just take our receiver box back & forth. Is the problem with the OP because he purchased an additional DVR beyond what he has at home?

It was a different type of rec from what his account was setup for originally. Most new installs are tagged as "mpeg4 equip only" because mpeg2 is not compatible with the EA dish. If you have mpeg2 equip you can add more mpeg2 or mpeg4

I got you handled sir! For anyone looking for information, DISH Network does allow for a receiver to travel in an RV or be setup on a SNOWBIRD account. The reason for this is that usually a customer is not simultaneously getting programming at home and on the road (or Arizona/Florida) at the same time. The RV situation requires proof of RV use and is good to go. SNOWBIRD accounts are accounts where a customer spends a significant amount of time at one address and then changes to another for a season or seasons. This is also allowed in the residential agreement. There are stipulations. You cannot have both addresses active at the same time.

Also, as far as RV's go, your installations and repairs are done by a retailer or you yourself. DISH Network technicians will not roll on a job in an RV. It is at your expense it gets serviced in the RV basically. As far as the SNOWBIRD accounts, a tech will service your gear because it is a "brick and mortar" location and is setup as a DISH Mover the first time, and a simple change of address is the only thing needed. These accounts are subject to verification and therefore it is required that you fill out the appropriate forms and supply information. Also bring ALL receivers on the account (w/SNOWBIRD) between each location. The CSRs and TSRs have steps to do as well, and asking them to add a note in both cases can save you some headaches. If you are here in the forum, any of my team can handle this for you.

As far as you are concerned, I apologize. The information is accessible, I am just surprised that "after months" no one gave it to you straight. There are some things that need to be done (in order and correctly) but you CAN carry receivers as described above. If you, or anyone else, need this to happen I can help you. There is a process you have to go through to get it done but I can do it. It can be taxing (first born, blood sample, hair analyzed, and a sacrifice) but so worth it. Just playing, its actually really simple but can take a little time (5-10 minutes if you can email or fax info).

Well I can attest that Dish Technicians won't roll on a service call in my house on wheels. As such, being self-sufficient is just part of being an RVer.

But when I wanted an upgrade from a VIP622 to a VIP722K and adding a VIP612, I could not get the upgrade units unless a Dish Technician came and did the job. I really didn't want the Dish Technician because they are not used to the cabling and space restrictions in an RV as a rule. That was an argument that went through all levels up to the highest point at Dish Corporate, 'no Dish Technician, no upgrades.'

But the Dish Technician that came was a very smart person, most are. He let me put the VIP722K in as I had already removed the VIP622. He installed the VIP612 in the bedroom as it was a very accessible location. He was very glad on not having to deal with the living room electronics cabinet.

Though you did a much better job of explaining, I've heard that all before only to have the next CSR imply I was making it all up. Is that clearly stated in a formal document somewhere?

I've already faxed several copies of my RV registration and receipts for my purchased receivers into a black hole somewhere. I don't want to (re)open that can of worms until/unless the HD distant thing is solved anyway but I'll think about it. Paying for CATV to a house that's empty several months a year is more than a little annoying.

I do want to thank you for taking the time to clarify though.

TonyT;

Please advise the proper procedure to follow when setting up 'Snowbird' account. The wife and I have arrived @our North Carolina campground leased lot and we will be here through the end of October. I have our 211K w/us w/DVR which has been active for sometime now. Upon arrival here, all the receiver will do is show the green power light and not much else. We did get TV for a short time once, but yesterday all I got was the green power light (NO HD BLUE LIGHT) and twice I saw on the screen "Receiver rebooting software with a bunch of red dots. But then, still no tv just a white screen.

We have never activated 'Snowbird' precedure before but now I feel we must. We are in Whittier, NC 29789 - Holly Cove Campground - Lot #4.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

JC/Brandie :)

So, just to let you guys know (and I was only informed very recently) there are some changes to this. I am getting "clarification" on those changes before I post here. Please hold off on submitting more information via the previously described method.

Where are all these forms you speak of?

Would you please post them to this thread as an attatchment?

I have been selling Dish for 12 years, and 10 years ago we didn't have an issue. The customer activated their additional receiver and bought an additional Dish and we where good to go when it came to having a second receiver for their RV.

The rule was and still is that as long as your only using 1 home at a time and the equipment is not installed in 2 seperate homes, its not an issue.

But now you get the Equipment Verification Team involved, and they simply make their own rules and throw everything you just said out the window. Its gotten to the point where I don't even sell to customers who have an RV or second home because the equipment verification team will frustrate the customer to the point where they will disconnect.

I hate to say it, we are at the point now where Dish Network would prefer snow birds to have 2 seperate accounts, and then go in and out of Dish pause as they move between locations.

I have the snowbird tag on my account now thanks to a fellow IRT member on another forum though I've abandoned the idea of Dish in my house. I'm about to retire and it will be vacant most of the time unless/until I decide to sell it.

I really wanted DNS but was told I'd need two accounts, one for the RV and one for the vacant house.

While I understand that there is confusion, I know that we are ok with "Snowbird" and "RV/CV" accounts. There are so many variances on a per situation basis that its hard to post about a general rule, but I am hoping that I can give as much information as I can and really get people comfortable with basic guidelines so that there are no issues. I have verified with EVT the information I am passing out is correct, mainly because I see that being the biggest point of concern in all this.

Think we have a little work to do based on the information that I have verified today. Before I begin, thanks for all the patience on this. With some changes recently I thought there might be changes all around, but it is very specific changes to a smaller group of people then I thought. I will explain as much as I can, and if there are any questions, please PM me or another DIRT member. Being that there are so many specifics, this thread is going to just "generalize" the issues, and we will provide specifics on an account by account basis (that way the rules are 100% as they apply to you).

"Snowbird" accounts are a very specific group of accounts. They are not for RV customers or Commercial Vehicles. A "Snowbird" is someone who has a summer home and a winter home (physical addresses that do not change). For example, a customer lives in Arizona in the winter (owned home), and lives in Montana for the Summer (owned home). The addresses at both locations do not change. The customer is then responsible for transporting ALL active equipment from the winter home to the summer home. Each location has its own dish, and the only thing that needs to happen is that the customer will need to call at each home to activate the "locals" for that home.

"Snowbirds" spend considerable amounts of time at each location (months at a time, typically seasons as described). In order to setup an account such as this, you would basically setup a "DISH Mover" and explain to the agent that you are a "Snowbird", at which point they will add the tag to the account. A rep of DISH will install the dish at the second home. When you go back to the original address, simply change the address back (my opinion is to change it on the way back). Each time the receivers are moved between homes, a check switch test will need to be run to rebuild information. The biggest thing is that ALL receivers that are active on the account must make the trip between each home. If that cannot happen, or you don't want to do that, you may want to consider separate accounts.

An RV/CV account is completely different. This type of account is specifically for RV/CV use. If you have a DISH account that will ONLY be used in an RV/CV, please go to Distant Networks - DISH Network and fill out the forms on the right side. The great part about an RV/CV only account is that you can get distant networks. Distant networks cannot be added simultaneously with Local DMAs, but they can be "toggled". In order to qualify for distant networks, the forms must be submitted and it can be 10-14 business days before anything happens, so it is by no means a fast process. Your plan to do this should factor in time, and the possibility the "applications" may be refused based on the information provided by you.

Lastly, there is the RV tag on a home account. You CAN have a receiver from your home account put in an RV. If you want to do this, you still need to give information with regards to the RV to us, so that the tag can be added to the account. I know it seems like it is more work then needed, but it will save you hassles in the long run. You can fax or email your information to DISH and we can get it handled for you. This type of account does not require you to fill out the information on those forms provided on the link.

These are "general" rules, and again, if you need help on this type of thing, please inform a resident DIRT member so that we can help you out. The information that pertains to your particular situation are on a case by case basis unless you fall into one of these categories EXACTLY. Even a minor deviation can cause some confusion, and we want to make sure that you are covered 100%. Thanks for your time, guys. If its a general question, please ask on the thread, if its specific to your situation, PMs are best.

Great explanation. Now I don't know which IRT member to believe.

So the snowbird tag your colleague set for the account in my RV, after telling me I could change locations as often as I needed to, is not going to work?

Here's are exact quotes of my question and his answer:

Q:"I've seen discussions in other threads about having an account flagged as a "snowbird" so I could change my service location and, hopefully, get locals wherever I happen to be. That's not quite what I'd like but its better than what I have. Can you do that for me?

I am typically on the road from 8-10 months per year and stay in one place for 2-8 weeks at a time. Would that many location changes cause a problem?"

A:"With the snowbird tag on the account, you can change the address as many times as needed.

The big thing is you need to take ALL receivers with you when you're a snowbird, and call to update the address EVERY time you move."
