Private Channels on Roku

HOLY CRAP!!! There is some great stuff here! Love the mummy and a couple of the bundled channels along with all the news channels. We'll see how long some of these "channels" last. :)

Thanks a million for this list!

What is ROKU? How do you install it?
Thanks!

Roku is a set top box with an Internet connection. It allows for all kinds of streaming content to be displayed on a tv. The most common "channels" are Netflix, hulu, and amazon. The channel store has many other channels and there are additional private channels where you have to enter a code in to get them.

For anyone interested I have attached a PDF file with available private channels you can add to your roku. There are private adult channels available, but this list does not include them.
Had seen that there were these types of lesser-known channels before. Is anyone concerned at all about opening their PC/roku to non-roku websites to "activate" the channels on the system?

Perhaps I'm just a little overly cautious these days. Some of the channels look like they could be GREAT!

thanks for the list. I received my Roku player yesterday and started to fiddle around. My take so far: it's neat, certainly not revolutionary. I will be keeping my satellite for the foreseeable future.

This is great! I knew about private channels, but I didn't know there were this many. I'm especially interested in the news channels.

You can add any of these channels from Roku's site by making a login and entering the channel's activation code. Unless you need to get through some pay-wall, you don't need to visit the website associated with the channel.

Free channel? depends on your taste, but I like the Mummy and TV.Com. Paid? Nothing beats Netflix for value. $8 a month and along with tons of content, it also has everything available on Starz/Encore that month (though not all in HD).

For those that want international news, (in English, and other languages) Roku has a large selection. For entertainment, I like Amazon because I am a prime member and there is quite alot for free.

Hi stardust3,
I was checking the Hulu plus site today but did not see any soccer channels. Are they in the channel store? Channels like GolTV, Fox soccer channel, ESPN deportes, etc. This could be an alternative to satellite if they had more channels, at least for those of us with "wifey" problems.
Thanks in advance.

IMHO Roku is not quite ready to 100% replace cable or satilite. There is no streaming local news and no 24 hour streaming national news. However if you have OTA it could easily eliminate the need for sat or cable...depending on your viewing habits/needs.
There seems to be more than enough free content, add $16/month for NETFLIX and HULU plus and there is potential to save quite a bit of cash, again depending on your households viewing habits.
I enjoy it. Just don't know if I could totally deal with out NESN and FoxNews

There's oodles of news channels both domestic and international on Roku. You may have to do a little searching, but the live international news channels are the only way to get news about what's happening in the US! Most of the international news channels deliver news only, not sensationalist talk shows! BBC (not BBC America), Eurovision, NHK, Fance 24, Russia Today, Al Jazeera and others are available on Roku in English 24/7. Fox News is available on Roku from 9am to 3 pm every day. CNN is also available in video update format. CNN International is also on a private stream. NBC News has a channel with all their news programs and along with every story from the nightly news, they have some stories that didn't make the 22 minute cut!

Several local TV stations stream their news broadcasts on public and private channels including stations from Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Chicago and others.

Is Roku a replacement for cable? No. I agree on this point. But lack of news alternatives is not one of the reasons for this.

I just got a new ROKU XS and love it!! I'm watching TECHGUY on Twit.TV right now and I'm impressed. Where can I find the most accurate website for ROKU private channels, I found 2 or 3 thru google but they seem like they are not updated too often. I have added a few private channels I am bummed tho I wanted BBC World News but seems like the stream is dead.

Any thoughts?
Bob
