Set up a new HD DVR receiver and a wireless bridge which allows me to connect to internet (that works fine) (YOUTUBE available on DTV menu). Is there any possible way to connect to NETFLIX to stream movies via the receiver? I subscribe to Netflix and would love to be able to watch movies on my 48" plasma instead of my laptop monitor.

DirecTV and Netflix have no "APP" yet. You will either need a SMART TV or a multimedia streaming / DLNA setup on your home network with gear like Roku, PS3, XBOX and TVersity, PLEX or some other known working setups.

That's what i was afraid of.......I was misled at Best Buy when they sold me the bridge. I was told it would let me "connect to the internet" and I could then access my Netflix account and stream movies to my tv. I have not been able to find/figure out how to do it and since I was on here about my other issue (2nd dish) I took the opportunity to see if any of you had an answer. You have been more than helpful and I am thankful for your time.

do you have a SMART TV w/ Netflix, maybe that is what they were telling you? Anyway, I do exactly what you just described, Netflix, as well as photos, MP3s and video files from my PC, just not directly via the DirecTV receiver, via a DLNA setup.

i think the samsung blu ray players have a netflix and voodoo app among other things.

I wish they would add a Netflix app.

I used to use my Sony Bluray player to access Netflix, but it didn't work the greatest. I purchased an Apple TV and the Netflix app on the Apple TV works fantastic! The video quality is excellent and playback doesn't stop all the time like it did with my Bluray player.

They can't even manage to support streaming radio (Pandora) to my HR34... much less support streaming video, and from a competitor (vs. VOD) at that :)

but yes, I also wish this was supported :)

Get a Roku box. Only $49.99 for the LT model and it has bulit-in WiFi. It has plenty of free stuff on it too. One of the best entertainment investments I ever made.

Let's stay on topic please instead of talking about each other.

You can also download a program called Play On on your home computer. I think it has a free trial period. This program allows you to stream Netflix to your HDDVR through your home network. You won't be able to fast forward, rewind or resume playback with it though.

direct tv should go for this and would help both with movies and show offerings like dish did with blockbuster but only partnership with direct and netflix :)

Also lots of private channels on roku as well that add significant mounts of content.

I use the Playlater/Playon combo which gives me the streaming plus the ability to record to the local computer for later streaming. That works very well.

Unfortunately, the D* side of it doesn't work reliably. I have been able to watch shows just fine, but then at some point it always stops playing and won't work for awhile. From my POV, that is unacceptable, so I just use my PS3. Big advantage to the PS3 with this combo is that it resumes from last playpoint, which is not the case with D*'s client.
