I know it stands for 'Electronic Program Guide' but what is it? Should I turn this option on? Will it enhance my viewing experience? Thanks in advance.

Hit the guide button and you should see it. It greatly improves your viewing experience especially if you dvr. It has various settings to change how much info is shown, adjusting to your liking will greatly enhance your experience.

It is the program guide, you can modify it to your liking.
