I thought DTV big thing was being the end-all-be-all destination for sports channels... but we don't have access to the WatchESPN (so we can see ESPN, ESPN2 when away from the house) ? According to ESPN, its your CABLE provider, not your internet provider which matters.

How can I get access to all ESPN networks available on WatchESPN?

Online registration through your TV service provider is required in order to access content on all networks.

What's the status on DTV subs getting this?

I've been wondering why no WatchESPN too. My buddy has Time freaking Warner and they let him. I just don't get it.

Because you got to have internet service from them... and DIRECTV is not an ISP.

I don't understand why though. My small town cable provider, which I get Internet through does allow us espn 3. No joy on them or directv, or dish for watch espn.

No liking how they handle this.

Not according to the QUOTE I posted from ESPN.. according to them it IS your TV provider.

Live streams of all the WatchESPN Networks are available at no additional cost to fans who receive ESPN as part of their TV subscription from Bright House Networks, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and Verizon FiOS TV.

Lets say I am a subscriber to Comcast... if I go over to my friends house who has COX as his ISP guess what... I can't watch WatchESPN using his ISP even though I am a legal subscriber of the service.

And I subscribe to TWC for broadband.. and cannot watch it, even tho TWC *CABLE* viewers can. You are saying I should be able to see it?

ESPN3 *IS* (supposedly) based on your ISP. Everyplace I check on the ESPN website says 'WatchESPN' is based on TV provider. Please explain why they are saying something different than you.

This pertains to the app to watch on tablets.

Ok, so why doesn't DTV enable us for that (ie. if DTV is the destination for sports)? That is the application I want to work... not watching on my PC.

EDIT: to put it a different way.. I have TW for ISP and DTV for TV... which "see ESPNx on something other than my TV" services am I supposed to be able to qualify for? ie. I don't get ESPNU in my DTV package.. would I be able to see it thru any of these methods.. on which platform(s)? Similar question for ESPN3. So far I've been unable to get any of them to work. The only ppl I know who do are TW Cable subscribers and they watch games on ESPN on their iPads when we've been on trips and didn't have access to a TV.

EDIT2: another link which ties it to cable provider: http://www.rr.com/sports/twcespn
From your computer or laptop, watch ESPN live online at ESPNnetworks.com
and catch more than 3,500 live sporting events on ESPN3.com. It's free if
you have ESPN with your Time Warner Cable video service.

Time-Warner requires you to carry both internet and cable tv on your account to enable ESPN3. I believe ESPN3 is actually brought into the receiver box via the internet and is displayed that way. It used to be unique to TWC to have it that way, but may be migrating to other service providers, as well.

ESPN3/WatchESPN is an internet service. You must have a valid subscription to ESPN through a television provider AND internet service through a specific/approved list of ISPs. ESPN keeps that list on their website and keep in mind that certain ISPs (like TWC) may have their own requirements.

Could be worse, there's a big fat 'powered by Cox' logo on the WatchESPN player and Cox isn't a participating ISP.

Just checked watchespn here.Just as you describe there is a powered by Charter logo but no watchespn.Espn3 is fine though and,it would have been the same difference using AT&T as I had tried it a few weeks ago and got the same message.

I just downloaded and am playing with this app at work. The PQ of it is actually really good and you can output it to an AppleTV via Airplay.

I just tested it only using Verizon LTE and it worked fine.. I will check it tonight when I am home on COX internet. :)

Time Warner is the oddball of the bunch. In most markets they require internet AND cable through them to be able to get ESPN3

and what do all of those providers have in common?

oh yeah...they do INTERNET too

so with Road Runner from TW, and DTV for TV..can I get any of these services? :) (so far my attempts have failed) :(

I have TWC Internet and Directv TV. I can't access WatchESPN with my TWC password, but my friend signed in here on his TWC account once and I just never signed him out... It works fine now! ;) (This does not work with Pac12 Network.)
