I dont know if you have ever done this... but I know I have. I going through my DVR recordings I hit the wrong button and poof the show I want to watch is deleted. In the past I would swear a lot and get frustrated.

Well not anymore with the new S229 software.

Now when you delete an item, it goes into a Recycle Bin where it is stored for 48 hours before it is automatically emptied.

Now if you delete a show, you can easily recover it and enjoy it.

To recover a deleted show go into the Deleted Recording icon in your DVR listings, click on the show you want to undelete, click on recover and the show has been restored to your main DVR listings.

About the only fault I can find with this new feature is there is no way to force it to empty the Deleted Recordings folder. Other then that it is GREAT. Thanks DISH!

I could have used this yesterday. I lost the last 2 weekends off Saturday Night Live... grrr... great feature!

Even nicer feature would be multiple select for delete show/folders. If it's available is not very intuitive because havent found the way to do it yet.

"Edit All" (Blue Button) from the DVR listing. It's been there from the beginning.

Even though the deleted folder is there for regular shows you record , it doesn't work for PTAT recordings that you might accidentally delete. I suggested to DISH that they create one for the PTAT folder a well , when I was testing this software for them, but I don't know if they will listen. But if you do accidentally delete a PTAT show and it has been less than 8 days from the recording, you can do what I find works. Do a search for the show you deleted . For example Fringe. I did this by accident and found it works. Look at each Fringe tile that pops up and I did and found my recording from the PTAT folder was still there and I could watch it. I've done this for other shows and tested it and it works. A work around till DISH does what I suggested and create a PTAT deleted folder or include the PTAT shows in the regular deleted shows folder.

The "Blue" button now is a shortcut to delete. So with one press of the blue button the show is sent to the "deleted folders". This works better than multiple select - as for multiple select you would had more key strokes - here you just press the blue button and zap the show away. Will be intuitive once you try it

Is this feature just for the user partition on the internal Hopper drive, or does it work for deleted programs on external hard drives too?

from a systems point of view, this isn't it difficult feature to implement and I'm happy they could add something like this for their customers.

basically, you replace the rm command with a program that news to the deleted recordings folder.

then you have a cron job that runs at intervals that removes files older than 48 hours.

good stuff. the only drawback is that you have to wait 48 hours to recover that space from deleted recordings. if your hopper is so full that you can't keep 48 hours worth of deleted recordings you might want to consider contacting a nearby 12 step program to assist you with your television addiction. :)

does anyone know if this applies to external disk recordings as well?

If you are running out of space for recordings, the hopper will overwrite the deleted recordings - so you don't really need to wait 48 hours

Actually -- I have found that recordings placed into the recycle bin do NOT occupy the user's portion of the DVR storage. I think it goes to Dish's reserved portion (for 48 hours.)

The way I read Vivek's response means this is not correct. We can have active recordings booting delete bin programs. I don't think the user programming goes into Dish's reserved portion.

Yeah already discussed in another thread. Too bad it's not the way I had hoped, not a huge deal, but I think 800GB is a tad excessive to make Dish-only, especially when they advertise it as a 2TB DVR.
