With S229, Bluetooth Audio is here and it works well!

Setup was very easy on the Hopper setup screen. Just went into the Bluetooth settings screen and clicked on find devices while my headphones were in pairing mode. A few second later my headphones were displayed on the Hopper screen.

I then chose the headphones that it found and hit the select button on my remote and it asked me for the pin for my device. The default pin of 0000 was also the same pin my headphones used. Clicked select again and a second later I had sound coming through the headphones.

I flipped through a couple of channels and was amazed to find perfect sync of the audio between the Hopper and the headphones. I don't know how DISH / Echostar accomplished this feat! If you have Bluetooth in your car, or have another Bluetooth device you know you can't watch lets say your Slingbox on your iPhone and have the sound coming through your Bluetooth enabled stereo system that the sound is WAY out of sync from the picture on the screen. I am happy to report perfect sync on all channels I tried it on.

When you first turn on Bluetooth the Hopper lets you know its on, by displaying the Bluetooth Logo on the lower right corner of the video screen for a few second.

I then flipped over to the SiriusXM channels and got to say I am impressed with the stereo separation, it honestly sounds like your listening via a wired connection. Now for those of you wondering its just 2.0 stereo. it does not deliver 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound.

In walking around my house I only had very little dropout while walking on the edge of the Bluetooth signal (about and estimated 25 - 30 feet)

Since getting the Bluetooth feature on my Hopper I now go to bed each night listening to SiriusXM without bugging my wife. It's a great feature!

It should be noted that the Bluetooth feature ONLY works on the Hopper, it is not support by the Joey's. Also you can pair and listen on up to 2 pairs of Bluetooth headphones at a time. :)

Yep was going to say I don't see why not. Good to know that they do.

will this work with a bluetooth for your phone...i would think so just wanted to know

Any bluetooth audio device should work, including a bluetooth earpiece like you would pair with your phone. You won't get the full stereo effect though so I would go for a full headset if it were me.

For now you cannot pair your phone though, just audio devices.

So... What bluetooth headphones are people using with their Hopper? Are you happy with them? I've been looking at low cost stereo BT headphones on Amazon, and can't make up my mind.

Isn't there bluetooth hardware in the Joeys as well?

Sadly no. Bluetooth is built into the chipset for the Hopper but what was chosen for the Joeys does not have bluetooth native. We bounced some ideas to the Dish Software team during testing but we will have to wait and see what is implemented for the Joeys going forward related to bluetooth support.

Based on somebody's recommendation here on satelliteguys, last month I ordered the following from monoprice.com

I easily paired it this morning to one of my hoppers, and it seems to be working fine. I only played with it a few minutes before leaving for work.

Does using the bluetooth feature mute the external sound? I could see where someone might want to listen with headphones if they have troubles with alot of loud ambient sound from a group of people but the others would here through the speakers just fine.

It did not automatically mute the sound. I muted it on the tv.

The very reason that I wanted the headphones is that it can get very noisy in my house. The family room where I watch the most television is connected to the kitchen where most of the talking goes on, as well as the dishwasher, garbage disposal and banking of pots and pans.

Good to hear, my house exactly and my "older" ears aren't what they used to be.

I use 2 widex hearing aids and a M-Dex remote control for the hearing aids. It works great with the bluetooth. Now I can move around the house and not fool with the wire. Great

Wish Dish would find a way to sync the audio of the hopper and Joey.

Sent from my Phone using SatelliteGuys
