Troubleshooting SG-2100 motor

I recently purchased a MicroHD and decided to resurrect my Winegard 1 meter dish mounted on an SG-2100 motor. Everything is connected and verified -- the power indicator LED on the SG-2100 is lit. But, the motor appears to be frozen in it's current position. The manual controls on the motor have no effect. Attempting to move the motor via the MicroHD does not work. There is no sound from the motor when I press the manual controls. FYI, this motor has been sitting idle for the last 2 years or so, and most of that outside exposed. Anything I can do to get it moving?

I'd appreciate recommendations for a replacement motor to use with the MicroHD. Or should I replace with the same SG-2100?

If its been outside for two years, I'd say it is time for an invasive operation! But I've never torn one of those down, so no help there. You might just get it unstuck with a little attention to its innards.

People have commented the grease used in the motors is substandard.
It doesn't age well. And isn't great in very cold weather.

There was a recent thread on the old 2100. (less than 6 months)
Look it up and read it.
Lot of info on grease, relays, corroded connectors, and a link to the tune-up page, for adjusting backlash.

If you can get your old 2100 running, that would be best.
If not, we'll talk about alternatives; from what I've seen, current 2100's are toys compared to old ones.

Also, read repair/debug thread s on other motors.
It's all good knowledge.

I haven't done this, but for bench testing you could use a temporary 12-18 volt battery alligator clipped to a short piece of coax for testing.

I'd think the grease would have to have turned to glue to stop the motor, but it would still move, only slower.

Thanks for the advise. I removed the dish, took it off the mount, and have started to disassemble. 2 of the 4 screws that hold the two halves of the motor together are corroded pretty badly and I stripped the tops out. May need to drill them out. A project for another day.

In the meantime I'm going to order another. Recommendations for use with a MicroHD & 1m winegard?

Again, that very question has been asked. Recently.
I might go with the DG380 from Sadoun.
At least it gives you something to look at.

The STAB motors are possibly best.
But I think the HH90 might be too small for a 1m dish.
They have an HH100 & HH120, but they may be in short supply.
No, they're not cheap but you didn't ask for junk.

well shoot , i was going to ask if you've tried another coax or tried the microHD close to the motor

not my motor but archive photos.
I have taken mine apart tho,the 2nd day I had it.
I had to disconnect the coloured wires to get it to work again.

I got one of these - http://www.galaxy-marketing.com/sg9120b-diseqc-hh-motor-mount-for-ku-band-and-fta.htm - when my sg2100 started acting up, and so far it has worked great with the MicroHD. Performs MUCH better in sub-zero temperatures than the sg2100 ever did.

Unfortunately the 9120(B) motors are no longer available from the manufacturer. The PowerTech 380(B) motors are available here:

My SG2100 was miserable in cold weather, the only way to make it move was to warm it with a propane torch then it would work fine till it cooled. I later replaced all the grease inside with lithium but never did hook it back up.

You don't want the "B" model of that motor if you really have a 1m Winegard dish. You want the NON-B model. That has a larger mounting pipe, which is needed for that dish.
