I was wondering how well the slingbox works with directv. I had one with dish and it worked pretty well, but I didn't know if the directv receivers were supported. My current setup is the hr-34 and 3 clients. Thank!

Works great. Downside is you have to run the receiver (mine is on a C31 client) in IR mode. The receivers (outside of the brand new HR44) only work with IR or RF, not both at the same time.

Been using Slingbox on Directv for many years and never had an issue.

I have two Slingboxes in use. I'd love to be able to use one on my HR-34, but due to the lack of simultaneous IR & RF, I have the Slingbox Pro-HD hooked up one on my HR-24's instead. Not a big deal most of the time, as long as my son isn't home using his HR-24, as I can still access all of my recordings on my HR-34.

Interesting, I didn't realize the HR-44 does IR & RF at the same time; that would be sweet. Besides the Slingbox, I have a Sony Google TV box on my HR-34, but have limited functionality, as the GoogleTV box cannot control the HR-34 because I have it in RF mode (I have the HR-34 mirrored to three other HDTV's in other rooms, so RF is a must). Now if DirecTV would only let us use our EHD's to transfer our recordings from my HR-34 to an upgraded shiny new HR-44, I'd be in Satellite TV heaven!

Just wondering, why does the Ali havoc require you to have the box in IR?

DVDDAD- how did you mirror your hr-34.. Does hdmi and component/ composite/s-vid all work at the same time?

Too bad the new remotes aren't backward compatible .

HR44 will support the old remotes IR only. The RF bands have changed in the new remotes, but the HR44 will do IR and RF at the same time.
So for a slingbox user this is a nice upgrade.

All recent model Directv receivers, including the Genie, output all ports at the same time. So yes, I use HDMI on my TV and Component on my slingbox.

If by "Ali havoc", you mean Slingbox, the Slingbox controls the source using IR. It is the one mode that is supported by almost all equipment.

It is a DIRECTV "exclusive" to not support both remote modes simultaneously.

Really? Directv is the only company that doesn't have simultaneous IR/RF control for their equipment?

They should ALL do both ....

I won't be getting any New recvrs for awhile, I very much don't like the NEW Remotes.
IF I am forced to get a new one, that will be the time I break down and buy a Universal remote.

I highly doubt that.
Theres still plenty of remotes that don't do RF for starters.

I have a Monoprice HDMI 1x4 splitter. One 8' HDMI to my main TV, one 50' HDMI to a 32" TV over my bar in the basement. Then I used two ioGear Wireless HDMI kits to send signals to 21" HDTV in my Kitchen and another 21" HDTV in my office. I don't use any component or composite (I don't think the HR34 has S-Video) but I do believe that all outputs are active on the HR34 all the time.

No svideo out, and yes all outputs are active at the same time.

Perhaps you can cite an example to the contrary.

The DISH devices that feature both IR and RF don't force you to choose.

It doesn't look like the Comcast boxes (including their simple-minded DTAs) care.

I can think of several boxes I have had over the years that didn't do simultaneous ir/rf. My old Toshiba TRX C-band receiver for one. It actually had a switch on the front to change from one to another.

I was thinking something more along the lines of equipment that was designed and manufactured in this century (but I clearly didn't make any such restriction).

I'm having an issue with my Slingbox Pro HD connected to my Directv HR24-500 with composite cable. For some reason, it will only sling the signal when the TV is on. Anyone have a fix? Thanks in advance.

This is an HDCP issue the only workaround is to either use component on the receiver to your TV, or get a powered HDMI splitter that fools the receiver in to thinking yrou TV is still on.
