DIRECTV is currently holding its Annual DIRECTV Revolution event, this year they are holding it in Las Vegas. DIRECTV Revolution is DIRECTV's annual retailer event which fills retailers in on DIRECTV's plans for the next years.

I have been in contact with a number of retailers searching for exciting news which I can share with you guys and so far I have been told... "well at least I got to vacation in Las Vegas."

So far no news out of the DIRECTV Revolution.

If you are a retailer at Revolution and have any NEWS to share please feel free to post it here.

I was hoping they would announce some sort of support online like we have with DIRT here.

I guess they finally announced Voice Command for the Genie, which was something I was talking about before CES.

Yup here is DBStalks "First Look" at the new voice control software coming later this year from DIRECTV.

Remember who was the first to tell you about it. ;)

In the view of a tech, dtv likes to overembelish advertisements and makes our jobs harder when customers are over literal to the point of stupid. Im waiting for someone to have a tv mounted above a fireplace with 0 access then refuse to take it down to fit a client or something claiming your commercial says no wires.... Best intention ever was the solidsignal commercial h25 rack. Ive often thought about buying 10 of these just to stock and resale. Luckily most custs that would want one will just order it themselves after i show them the link.

My friend came over and saw the wires to my client. The client is pulled forward a little bit so the remote will see it from the whole room, so 3 or 4 inches of the power cord, HDMI, and coax are visible. He is a cable loyalist and said "Another Directv lie... wireless means 3 wires!" But he does have a point... there's no way the system is fully wireless, so I will agree that the commercials are misleading. The first time I saw the ad, I was like... "um... no! I have wires!" before researching on here. There's no mention that most people don't have the ability to get the wireless set up.

there is complete wireless technology on the Samsung 7100 series and above tvs called RVU

No wires, no cables at all only with directv as far as i know so the commercial is true considering you have RVU tvs

This is not exactly true, early setups had a coax running to a powered deca going to the ethernet port on the tv, rvu will not run on wireless (to my current understanding) you need a hardwired cat5 lol

I have a Samsung RVU TV and although the TV has wireless capability, if you try to setup RVU on wireless the TV tells you you have to have a hard-wired ethernet connection.

Why not just hide it and utilize the built in RF ability?. Unless you don't have a RF remote.

Exactly. "Wireless" refers to no coax wire, ya still need ethernet.

But in the event you dont have ethernet at the tv location, a powered deca is used to create ethernet out of coax.

That is what no boxes means, a deca is considered an adapter not a box (or receiver)

The c41w is a new animal that connects to the hr44 wirelessly but you still have the box and wires to the tv.

If you think about it theres no way to use 0 wires and no equipment. You need a way to get the signal to the tv somehow. People are just ignorant in that matter

Well, not really. Since the RVU technology is based on ethernet, you actually don't need coax to deliver the signal. A wireless RVU would presumably have the ethernet-to-DirecTV signal "conversion" internal to the RVU, essentially a built in wireless DECA. Several people have tested the C31 client connected only by a wireless DECA (a CCK) to a whole home network (actually to the wireless router). If the CCK were built into the C31 client, the whole unit would be wireless - except for the power cable.

I think voice control is just a gimmick, and not practical for real life use. Just as it is in many other devices. I can't picture myself slumped over my couch half asleep at 2am watching tv, having to speak clearly to a box to tell it to change channels. I LIKE pushing a button on a remote. I hate touch screens, because you have to look at it to make sure you are hitting the right spot. With a button, you know it by heart, and you can feel it in your hand with your eyes closed. Voice always misunderstands, and I find myself using several 4 letter words when speaking to a damn machine.
Long live the physical push buttons!
